Bussell TOWN CC O U N C I L The regular meeting of the Tuk- wila Town Council was called to order by the Mayor, Charles 0.. Baker, at 8:00 p.m. Councilmen present were Stan Kinkier , A. G. Radford, E. V. Ives, R. K.Doyle and Jerry Hamilton. Mayor Baker asked that bids for a new Fire Trubk'.be. -.presented .. One bid, only, from the American L trance Co. was received. The Department for review and consid- eration. Council also requested the -ire Department also review the specifications and bring back a report on Nov. 20. Mr. Long reported 1 building Permit issured in October. At 9 P.M. there was a public hearing on a street vacation, all properties of Puget Western and Southcenter. There being no oral or written objections Hr.Hamilton moved Ord. 340, vacating a cer tain portion of S. 162nd St. and 54th Ave. S. be placed on its first reading, seconded and car- ried. By the adoption of Ord. „` 338 on October 16, 1961, the Town of Tukwila accepted a deed for a new road known as "Slade Way", which name was .given in memory of lir. Myron Slade a former Street Sup- erintendent of Tukwila. Resolut- ion ;,,= 145, a tribute to Ir. Slade was adopted. Mayor Baker pres- ented to Mrs. Slade, who .was present, a copy -0f thhcRbool%tt and a letter from Puget '::Feet©rn. Cont. Page 2 Col 2 lase 2 Council Cont. Citizens of an area •-hick had not until recently been included in Tukwila boundaries, ouestioned the manner they might pursue in withdrawing from Tukwila. Meeting recessed until Nov. 20. Recessed meeting called. to order by the Mayor. Mayor Baker reported he had re- ceived an invitation from Mayor Clinton of Seattle to attend a meeting of the Seattle Annexation Committee, being held t.Lis even - in;, Nov 20th. Since he could not attend George Long was repre- senting him and presenting a let- ter to the Seattle Annexation Review Board, which Mr. Long will read. Mr. Minkler read a copy of this letter in which Mayor Baker stated the Town Of Tukwila was opposed to the proposed Seattle Annexation and why it was so op - Posed. Mr. Duxbury presented his resignation as Director of Civil Defense. Marshal Earle Parker recommend- ed appointments for setting up the Police Department Civil De- fense program, as followo: Rank of Captain for Marshal Earle Parker; rank of Captain and head o::' the Juvenile Department _dor Alfred H, Hancuff: rank of Ser- geant for Robert E. Pigg. ir. Minkler moved Council approve these ap?:ointments, secended by Mr. Hamilton and carried. Mayor Daher asked for a decision on the bid on the Fire Truck, i•Ir. Hamilton reported the Fire Departmint was satisfied with the bid. and he moved Councils` accept the bid of American LaFrance Co. Pith a six year contract for pay- ment, seconded by Mr. Minkler and carried. The Tukwila Planning CominiE: ion recommended that the requested temporary revised access of Christianson Road to PSH -1- Re plan be allowed. i•ir. 'Minkler moved Council accept this recom- mendation and the request be granted, with the provision that the approaches be of asphalt or concrete paving, seconded by Mr. Hamilton and carried. The vote was 195 in favor of the move and 13 votes against. On June 19th several petitions containing more than 100 signat- ures were presented to the Town Council calling for the election. Among the changes in status will be the seating of two more councilmen and the election or appointment of a city clerk and city attorney.
