Excerpts from the minutes of the
Tukwila Town Council.
The regular meeting of the Tuk-
wila Town Council was called to
order by the Mayor, Charles 0.
Baker, at 8 P.M. Councilmen pre.,
sent were Stan Minkler, A.G.Rad
ford, E.W. Ives and Jerry Hamil-
ton
Bir. Minkler reported 1 building
permit issued in November.
Mr. Drew reported on Public

The Tukwila Community Club held
their election at the December
meeting. New Officers elected
were: President - Don Leahy,Vice-
president - Art Stevens, Secret-
ary - Marge Eastwood, Treasurer -
Tessie Henke.
The new Tukwila Community Club
Queen is Barbara Reed. Ker Sanior.
Princess is Alexa Hopper; Junior
Princess - Judy Howat.
The next Club meeting will be
on Tuesday, January Yo, at 8:OOPM
in the Club Hall. New members
are weloamed.
Saturday, January 21st is the
date for the Coronation of Queen
Barbara. The crowning will be at
8:00 P.M. at the Community Club
hall.Everyone is invited.
There will be a teen dance
following the edrohation.

The Tukwila Fire Dept. repotts
a nice turn out at the Christmas
party. They wish to extend their
thanks to the Firemaids for their
assistance.

The re -appointment of Lee R.
Phillips as Police Judge was an-
nounced by Mayor Baker at the
last Council meeting.
After the appointment had been
confirmed by the Counoil, the
Oath of Office was administered
by the Mayor.

Bids were received and opened
for a new Police car. Four bids
were made. The bid of Pope Ford
of Renton of ;j 2459.56 was accept-
ed by motion of Mr. iviinkler and
seconded by Mr. Radford, delivery

Er. Hamiltor, reported he 'had
investigated a number of sewage
disposal..a.nts. There was a
lengthy discussion regarding
future plans for a town sewer
system.
Mr. Strander reported on a meet-
ing at. ..edmond, at which he and
Mayor Baker explained our Valley
Industrial Commission. Mayor
Baker outlined the background and
Er. Strander followed with a pro-
gress report. They had been in-
vited by the cities in that atea
to aid them in setting up a sim-
iliar Industrial Commission.
Mr. Minkler read a letter from
the office of the King County En-
gineers regarding plans for flood
control. Mayor Baker commended
the Valley cities who worked so
faithfully for the passage of
Proposition No.l.
Mr. Minkler reported on the
slide on S. 162nd St. Yr. Robin-
son, who lives in that area, spoke
of the condition near his home,
and was concerned that leaning
trees might endanger the lives of
children playing in the area.
Members of the Council who in-
spected the area on Dec. 5th. re-
ported numerous cracks in the
street and on private property.
Mr. Minkler moved the Contractor

leaning; in a dangerous manner and
to fence the entire slide area
including S. 162nd. St. The.
Council requested a meeting of
those affected on Monday, Dec. 12
and suggested I;Ir. Buraenski, Pro-
ject Engineer, be invited to be
present.
A letter was presented from the
Planning Commission recommending
azTn ing of R -M -H be placed on an
area north of So. 16oth 3t., and
a zoning of R-1-9.6 on the area
south of S. 160th St. in the area
annexed by Ordinance No. 306.
The Planning Commission also
recommended that a rezone to R-4
be allowed on property at 16205-
54th Ave. So. Mr. Minkler moved
the recommendation be accepted

The Planning Commission further
recommended that permission be
allowed to construct a telephone
equipment building on tha

Mayor Baker informed the Council

ing acted in this capacity since
Sept. 1st.
IVir. Zepp made a request for a
.used dumptruck. Hr. Radford
moved we purchase such a truck
and that we advertise for bids to
be opened on January 3, 1961.
Mr. Zepp also requested permis-
sion to buy a chain saw. The
Council was Agreeable.

at 8 P.M.
Mayor B:.ker read a letter from
the King County Commissioners,
stating they had reappointed Mr.
Lee R. Phillips Justice of the
Peace until the next election.
A letter sent to Mr. Blakely by
Mayor Baker informed the former

til inspection has been made and
necessary repairs as required un-
der our Building Code are com-
pleted.
Mayor Baker announced he was
reappointing Mr. James North to
a six year terin on the Planning
Commission, effective on January
2, 1961.
Mayor Baker asked the Councilmen
their feeling regarding deepening
and dredging the river to make it
navigable for ocean going ships
and barges. Mr. Minkler stated
there is no indication the tax
payers favor such a project. He
was in favor, however of improve-
ment that would make the river
and vicinity attractive for in-
dustry. The other Councilmen
agreed and stated they knew of no
industry which had indicated a
desire to use the river for navig-
ation.
The firemen called attention to
a provision that a payment can be
made to firemen for attendance at
drill. The sum not to exceed
Aoo.00 for the year 1961.
Ir. Crostick made a request to
furnish gas to town equipment
from his Tidewater Service Stat-
ion. It was thought it might be
worked out with the departments
using gas.
