How adequate is our town fire
protection? Can 24 men and 1 new
fire .truck (plus 1 old one )
cover the whole Town of Tukwila
efficiently?
The question is not, whether
the. Fire Department is doing a
good or bad. job. The record of
the Tukwila Fire Dept. is excel-
lent. The men are well trained
in fire fighting as well as first
aid.
But with the annexation of
many new areas into the Town of
Tukwila, it is understandable,
even the best Dept. cannot cover
such a wide area efficiently.
Something has to be done before
the consequences become too great:

VALLEY INDUSTRIAL
COMMISSION
by i:ayor Charles O..Baker
After the completion of the How -
&'d Hanson Dam it will become nec-
essary for the cities of Auburn,
Kent, Renton and. Tukwila to era-
;bar1: upoia a program of raising
the dikea along •tile .riv.er through-
out the Valley in order to con-
tain the volume of water that
will be released from the reser
voir behind the Dam. The river
- -::channel will require some
straightening; sand:bars, trees
and other debris must be removed
to speed the flow of water. This
is a tremendous undertaking and
will be very costl•y•but neverthe-
lbss necessary if we are to see
our Valley land remain.useful for
agriculture and industry.
During the past few months our
Valley Cities have worked with
and encouraged the County Comm..
issioners• to create a Drainage
District that will include all of
King County. This has been ap-
proved by the Commissioners and a
bond issue (King County Proposit-
ion No. 1) has been placed on the
ballot to be voted on by all of
the people of King County in the
November 8, election.
The officials of all four cities
sincerely request your support
and cooperation in working for
this proposition.
It is the only fair method to
combat the yearly floods that oc-
cur in all of the rivers through-
out King County. Every resident
of the County, directly or indUr-
ectly, receives many benefits
from our rivers and valleys. It
i the Valley land that houses
almost all of our industries thus
creating jobs for thousands of
people, no matter where they live.
It is our rivers that supply a
major amount of the recreation
for the city dweller as well as
the valley residents. From these
rivers come the very water that
is used in the homes of almost
everyone. It may be a little
difficult for a person living,say
in West Seattle, to realize that
they do derive benefits from our
rivers; that they also suffer
financial loss when the floods
ravish our Valley. We need the
votes of these city dwellers. Un-
doubtedly you have friends in
Seattle to whom you may be in a
position to explain our needs .
Will you try?

(cont. from pg. 3 - col. 1)
Remember, by working for the
passage of Proposition No.l your
cost as a Valley property owner
will be reduced. you will not be
asking others to remove your re-
sponsibility but only to share it
because they also benefit.
Last year the floods in King
County caused ,,6,698,000.00 dam-
age. This damage has occurred
annually for many years. Isn't
it about time we start on a pro-
gram to prevent this useless cost
to property owners and taxpayers?
If this proposition passes it
will give King County 0,000,000.
0o for flood control and other
related problems. The Green
River Valley will receive the
largest allocation if the bond
issue passes.
You as a home owner will natur-
ally be interested in knowing how
much your taxes will be increased
by Proposition No.l. When applied
on all taxable property it will
increase the taxes on a $10,000.
00 home less than 'pl.00 a year
Your share will be small, the
benefits immeasureable. Help us
in our effort to stop the floods.
