Excerpts from the Town Council Meeting
Minutes for the month of June
The regular meeting of the Tukwila
Town Council was called to order by
the Mayor, Charles C. Baker, at 8 P.M.
Councilmen present trere Stan lankier,
A. G. Radford, 6tiynn Anderson and R.K.
Doyle. Also present were E.W.Ives and
Jerry Hamilton, Councilmen elect.
The minutes of the May meeting were
read and approved.
Mayor Baker read a letter from Mr.
Cheetha_M, of Puget Sound rower ?;. bight
Company, commending our Police offic-
ers at the time of an accident on the
Highway. Lther Corres ondence was
read.
Current bills were examined and upon
motion approved, and ordered paid.
The report of the Treasurer was read
and accepted.
The report of the water dept. was
read and placed on file.

INDUSTR IA L
- PARK
Ground -breaking ceremonies were held
on Tuesday, July 5, for the multi-
million dollar Andover Industrial eark
in Tukwila.
Puget ibstern, Inc. is developing
the industrial park as a subsidiary of
the ruget -Sound .-ower & Light Comany.
It is located along the west b;Lrk of
the Green River, just east of the
Southcenter regional sho p ging center
now being built.
dells B. McCurdy, executive vice-
president of .Ftiget Western, Inc. and a
vice-president of the Southcenter Corp
and the Northgate Co. said that total
investment in the land, utilities and
buildings is estimated at 60 to 70
million dollars.
About 22 millions will be spent on
development of the first 30 acres of
the industrial park, McCurdy said.
This will include a fill eight to 10
feet deep, costing 1350,000, raising
the surface well above the Green River
Flood level.
Preparation of the first 30 acres
trill be completed by the end of next
fall. manufacturers may erect their
own buildings on leased or purchased
ground or, if the manufacturers prefer
Puget. ll'estern Inc. trill erect the
buildings and even install standard
equipment.
Mayor Baker stated that for all of
us here in Tukwila, the beginning of
the Industrial Park is the fulfillment
of a dream. A dream for the future
which has been planned for and locked
forward to for many years. For the
officials of the Town this is the
proud realization of the thousands of
hours of work and planning of the -oast
three years. In the near future the
announcements will be made as to the
nationally known tenants who will be-
come a part of our Industrial Commun-

The Council discussed requests for
rezoning, ' as reconunended by the
ring Co m ssion, that would extend in-
to an ,°area' supposed to be the route of
the Freeway. Mater Baker reported
that Mr. Sterling; of the Bureau of
Public Roads, had contacted ' him and
requested that rx further °rezoning be
done in the ;haute of the Freeway.
Mayor 3aker informed Mr. Sterling that
our tom officials -had never been told
as to where 'the Freeway or Interchang-
es would be' located. The Mayor read a
letter from Mr. Rad McKay in lahich he
requested no rezone be permitted nor
building permits issued for 60 to 90
days, until' the route of the Freeway=
and Interchanges is made known, After”
considerable discussion the ,lotion was
made to table these requests until we
contact our attorney.

cision from the town officials as to
'which of the three routes it would be.
After some discussion the feeling

A request was presented from John
Graham Company that a contract for
professional services be signed.
The Council received a petition re-
questing said Council make every
effort to make provision in the Town
Budget for the necessary monies to
contract with the King County Library
System for library service. Hr. Ives
moved the Council accept the petition,
seconded by Mr. Doyle and carried. A
committee was ap.ointed to work on
this matter.
Meeting adjourned.
PE RMITS
Fire permits are now required for
any outdoor fires. 2ermits may be ob-
tained at the Toun Hall or from Bill
Aliment at the Foster Golf Course.
REMINDER
Just a reminder from your Fire Dept.
In case of fire call Ch. 3-5353. This
is an automatic alarm- LE.E Trait for
an anstrer, then give the location of
the fire.
Remember also to check basements and
closets for oily rags or any other
combustible materials that may cause a
fire. Many fires are started this fray
and are not often detected in time.
Keep your home safe from fire while
you are on vacation.

Tukwila firemen answered two alarms
in June.
A house fire at 172nd & 57th Ave. So.
A furnace fire at a house on Inter-
urban Ave So.
In July:
July 2nd. - A stump fire at 143rd and
Interurban Ave.
July 3rd. - House, barn and out build-
ings at 133rd (•47th Ave. So.
July 4th. - A stuns fire on Christian-
sen Road.
There were also two false alarms re-
ported.

COMMUNITY
CLUB
The Community Club held their pot luck
supper on June 14th, at the Club Hall.
Those who attended enjoyed. a pleasant
evening.
The next meeting will be held in Sept.
FOSTER GRADS
There Trill be a get together picnic
for all Foster Alumni and their famil-
ies and friends at Ky' Resort at Lake
Meridian, on Sunday, July 17th.
All old Grads and their families are
welcome.

INCORPORATED
HISTORY of THE TO VW GF TUKWILA
taken from Town Council minutes.
The Town of Tukwila was incorporated
June 8, 1908, with the first council
meeting being held June 29th at the
home of the Mayor, Joel Shomaker.
Councilmen were J.ii. Hall,R.H. Heath
J.H. i&lson, Del Adelphia, and John 0.
Wold. E.H. Engel was treasurer and E.
G. Green, Clerk. A iblice Magistrate,
Marshall, City Attorney and Health
Officer were appointed.
The first ordinance of the Town of
Tukwila was drawn up at this meeting.
It read as follows: "That a corporate
seal fpr the Toun of Tukwila shall be
adopted, and is described as follows:
One and five -eights inches in diameter.
the impression of which shall be a cl-
uster of three Hazel nuts, in the
husk, in the center, and an inscript-
ion around the outer edge, having the
words: "Seal of Tukwila, Jashington ,
