PARK
Last summer a group of Tukwila res-
idents worked at the park each Bbdu s -
day cleaning out the underbrush and
clearing the trails. There are many
more trails and flower beds throughout
the park to be uncovered. A great im-
provement was made last year by a few
and we Feel confident that with more
workers a much greater improvement can
be made this year.
Pack a picnic lunch, bring your chil-
dren and a few garden tools and you
will enjoy a day working in the park
and visiting with other residents. The
improvement you will see at the end of
the day will reo']y make your efforts
worthwhile.
If you cal -lit spend the dal , just
come for a few hours; any help mil be
appreciated.
The work began on Gbdnesd:y, May 11,
and will continue each 1'ediiesday

VALLEY INDUSTRIAL.
COMMISSION
By Mayor Charles 0. Baker
Immediately after the Supreme Courtts
de^..i_ ion , declaring the two mill levy
unconeedt,+1r,rai, the newspapers came
out witn n. 'i r;7 v] eomy story eb,yi.t the
future. for c']2' 1G alley. According to
their statement^ t cnt*-two thousand
acres of land ware forever lost. Sev-
eral thousand jobs that might have
been would now never materialize.
Once again 'I called on my friend
Byron Fish for assistance. His art-
icle appeared in the Seattle Times on
June 18, 1959. IiJa brought out the
facts that no land had been•lost by
the Fbrtto defeat. The land was still
here, it had- always been and mould
Continue to be. I•?o jobs had been lost
because of the reversal. I(Eth the
shadow of condemnation removed private
ind'stry coni d. now procead with their
development. Jobs would be created in
the Valley nor ae early an 1960 Where-
as the kbrtts program would not have
advanced this far until 1275. 7nring
these ,years their program would haVe
been financed with tax payers' dollars.
Today the• Valley is being developed
by private enterprise with no cost to
you, the land is still on the tax rolls
A tax base is being created for the
advancement of your Town and school
district.
YAth the Supreme Courtts decision
the future of the Valley and its many
problems tigers placed once again in our
hands. Trohleme also existed that
reached beyond our boundries. They
could only be solved by working with
our neighbor cities.
Realizing that the responsibility
was now snnaarely upon our shoulders,
for our valley and its future, I call-
ed a meeting of the Mayors of the four
cities and discussed with them the ne-
cessity of forming a Valley iidnst-_•ial
Commission to cope with .flood control,
drainage, chans.el za ;,iott, planning,
etc. They were in agreement.
Our Wiley Induetr_al Commission has
now been in exic,<,:,'cc ro::, enteral
months. Dering this per eed. we have
made a study- of hiehweys. dna_nege and
many other of our cam -ion prof:=.-ene,

Each has ono thing in common, they
all have a stake in the Valley. Their
fettree are best assured by a prosper-
ous Volley with its retail outlets and
diversified industry. They approach
all rreblems with intelligence and a
sincere spirit of cooperation. Recent-
ly -!hey received a complar..nt in an
editorial in the Renton Chronicle. The
statement was, "This is the first time
in the history of the Valley all four
Cities have ever agreed on anything".
This cane shortly after the Commission
had successfully completed a joint
Dnai nage Survey.
The organization is in its infancy.
It will be instrumental in our future
development,
