SUBJECT: City Administrator's Report
The City Administrator Report is meant to provide the Council, staff, and the community with an
update on the activities of the City and on issues that concern Tukwila. Please let me know if you
have any questions or need additional information about any of the following items.
1. Intergovernmental Update
• King County Green Schools: Mayor McLeod and Public Works staff attended the Tukwila
School District Board meeting on May 27 and provided congratulations to the school district
for schools for being recognized by King County as King County Green Schools and by the
Washington State Recycling Association for being recognized as the 2024 Recycler of the Year
- Public Agency. The school district's five schools implemented composting in the kitchens
and the cafeteria this school year and diverted enough trash to fill almost 6 school buses.
• Senior Awards Night: Mayor McLeod participated in the Senior Awards Night at Foster High
School on May 28, recognizing the students that are receiving Tukwila City of Opportunity
Scholarship awards.
• Cedar Hills Landfill Tour: On May 29 Mayor McLeod joined City staff on a tour of the Cedar
Hills Landfill in Maple Valley.
• Tukwila Promise Press Conference: Mayor McLeod joined Representative Bergquist, Dr.
Pedroza and others on May 28 for a press conference promoting Tukwila Promise.
• Meeting with Angolan Consulate: Mayor McLeod and Director Miles met with members of
the Angolan Consulate on June 6 to discuss the local committee of immigrants in the region.
• Tukwila School District Monthly Provider Meeting: Human Services staff participated in a
monthly Tukwila School District provider meeting, discussing year end activities.
• King County Flood Control District (KCFCD) Partner Planning Committee Meeting: The
KCFCD is moving forward with the development and implementation of the Lower Green
River Corridor Flood Hazard Management Plan. This plan will guide the identification and
prioritization of investment in levees, revetments, and other flood protection throughout
Renton, Kent, Auburn and Tukwila. The kickoff meeting is scheduled for June 18.

II. Community Events
• Airport University Class Presentation: Transportation Demand Management staff
presented to an Airport University class on 5/28 and distributed ORCA cards.
• Youth Transit Promotion at Foster High School: Transportation Demand Management staff
engaged with students during lunch at Foster High School on May 30. Youth ORCA cards were
distributed and free youth transit and Metro Flex, programs were promoted both of which
students can use to get to the Tukwila Community Center for free.
• New Duwamish Park Playground: A new playground is being installed at Duwamish Park in
partnership with KABOOM! and their funding partner Delta Air Lines. A new 5,000-square-foot
playground is being installed at Duwamish Park, nearly doubling the size of play and outdoor
activities at the park. Parks & Recreation is seeking community input on the design. Two
design sessions were held at the Tukwila Community Center on June 9. Community members
can provide input by an online survey at https://bit.ly/Design Duwamish Park.
III. Staff Updates
Public Safety
• Basketball Game with Foster High School: On June 5 Tukwila, Renton and Federal Way
Police Officers along with Officers from the Department of Corrections, participated in a
basketball game against the Foster High School Bulldogs team.
• Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run: On June 20 the Special Olympics Law
Enforcement Torch Run will be making its way through Tukwila. Tukwila Police Department
members will participate and run the torch through Tukwila's portion which begins at
Aviation High School and ends at 170th and Pacific Highway.
Project Updates
• Boeing Access Road Light Rail Station: Community Development staff continue to meet
with Sound Transit to refine the design of the Boeing Access Road Station and ensure that the
City's priorities are considered.
• Staff have submitted a final report to closeout a Washington State Department of Natural
Resources Urban/Community Forestry Grant. Work accomplished via this grant includes:
0 353 ivy survival rings cut, 145,000 square feet of herbicidal application, 30,000 square
feet of manual ground ivy removal, and 593 invasive trees/shrubs treated with direct
herbicidal injection in Southgate Park
o Creation of Site Assessment and Restoration Plans for Southgate Park, Crestview Park,
Riverton Park, Codiga Park.
• Freeway/Highway Litter Clean -Up: Totem Logistics, Inc. will be cleaning up litter on
freeway/highway on and off ramps in Tukwila over the next few weeks. This work is funded
entirely by a Department of Ecology grant.
• Chinook Wind Public Access: Two interpretive signs as well as a trash receptacle were
installed at Chinook Wind Public Access. Visitors can enjoy learning about salmon and tidal
cycles as they walk the trail around the permitter of Chinook Wind. Benches are coming soon.

• Surface Water Project: Water Quality Retrofit Project on SR 599 off ramp (north bound) to
Tukwila International Boulevard is scheduled to start June 16 and take 4-6 weeks. The work
will occur at night to avoid impacts during the day as this is a high traffic volume corridor.

We welcome the City Council to encourage community members to apply for vacant Board &
Commission positions.
• Arts Commission: The next meeting is scheduled for June 18, 2025.
