Additionally, the Department would like to update the Committee on several upcoming capital projects throughout the City of Tukwila Parks, Trails, and Open Space System. DISCUSSION Fiscal Year 2025 H1 highlights will be shared from across Parks & Recreation’s operations. We continue to be extremely proud of our staff’s continuous and dedicated efforts in serving our community. Work continues throughout the organization to optimize work processes, expan d efficient use of technology for internal and external stakeholder benefit, repair, replace, and enhance built and natural assets, and explore new partnerships with organizations throughout the area to provide the Tukwila community with Good, Healthy, Fun throughout our parks and trails system. This project iscurrently in the design stage and has received a $1.07million grant award from the Washington State Recreation& Conservation Office. Construction will likely start in2026.y33 Tukwila Parks & Recreation2025: Mid-Year ReportCAPITAL PROJECTSDuwamish Playground ReplacementBudget – $118.5KThe Parks & Recreation Department has been awarded a CommunityBuilt Playscape Grant from the national non-profit Kaboom! to replacethe playground at Duwamish Park in Allentown. As part of this project,Delta Airlines will serve as the project’s funding partner, with the cityproviding a matching contribution for the installation of a largerplayground. The department has collaborated with Kaboom! to gathercommunity feedback and solicit staff input on plans for the newplayground. The Community Build Day has been scheduled forSeptember 27th. One suchproject being proposed is the installation of a climbing boulder inHazelnut Park in the Tukwila Hill Neighborhood. This project willprovide a new amenity in a currently underutilized park within oursystem and will provide for new activities for local youth and families inthe neighborhood.
