PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, National Hispanic Heritage Month is observed each year by celebrating the
histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from
Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America; and
WHEREAS, the observation started in 1968 and was expanded in 1988 to cover a 30-
day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15; and
WHEREAS, Hispanics have a profound and positive influence on our country and
community through their strong commitment to family, faith, hard work, and service
and enhanced our national character with centuries -old traditions that reflect the
multiethnic and multicultural customs of their community; and
WHEREAS, these positive contributions are evident within the Tukwila community,
where thriving businesses and neighborhoods exist, creating a meaningful social
fabric of which all residents can engage and learn.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Thomas McLeod, Mayor of the City of Tukwila, do hereby proclaim
September 15 - October 15, 2025, as:
Hispanic Heritage Month
in the City of Tukwila and encourage all community members to join me in recognizing
this special observance.
