Resolution establishing 2026 Standing Committees and Work Sessions Laurel Humphrey City Council Staff January 5, 2026 Regular Meeting ❑ Discussion Only ❑x Action Requested MOVE TO approve a resolution establishing the titles, duties, and schedule of the standing City Council Committees and Work Sessions for 2026. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The proposed resolution establishes the schedule and scope for 2026 standing committees and retains the 2x/month work session schedule. DISCUSSION Committee meetings and work sessions are subject to cancellation depending on business needs. All meetings of the City Council are offered in a hybrid format accommodating both in-person and virtual attendance by the public. ATTACHMENTS Draft resolution WK DRAFT A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, REVISING THE MEETING SCHEDULE OF THE STANDING CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEES AND WORK SESSIONS FOR 2026, AND REPEALING RESOLUTION NO. 2116. WHEREAS, RCW 42.30.030 states that all meetings of the governing body of a public agency shall be open and public; and WHEREAS, all persons shall be permitted to attend any meeting of the governing body of a public agency; and WHEREAS, the City Council desires to evaluate the work session and standing committee framework each year in an effort to appropriately balance the current policy work of the City; and WHEREAS, the City Council strives to operate at the highest level of efficiency; and WHEREAS, the City Council desires to conduct its meetings in a hybrid format to allow both in-person and electronic attendance. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Pursuant to the Rules of Procedure of the Tukwila City Council, there are four standing committees of the Council, consisting of three members each. The Council President shall appoint the membership of each committee and the Committee Chair by the second Regular Meeting of each year. All Council Committee meetings are open to the public. Information on public participation via Microsoft Teams or by telephone will be published on every agenda. Section 2. The 2026 Council Committee meeting schedule is revised as follows: 2026 Legislation: Standing Committees Staff: L. Humphrey Page 1 of 3 11 1. Community Services and Safety Committee meetings shall be held on the second Monday of every month commencing at 5:30 p.m. This Committee will provide policy recommendations on legislative matters relating to police, fire, emergency management , municipal court, public safety facilities, animals, community engagement, human services, parks, recreation, youth and senior services, golf course, community center,public art, social equity and justice, and other ad hoc matters as assigned. Meetings will be held in the Hazelnut conference room, 6200 Southcenter Boulevard, Tukwila, Washington. 2. Transportation and Infrastructure Services Committee meetings shall be held on the fourth Monday of every month commencing at 5:30 p.m. This Committee will provide policy recommendations on legislative matters relating to transportation, traffic, streets, water, sewer, surface water, power, street lighting and signals, solid waste and recycling, river basins and levees, aviation, telecommunications, shops facilities, fleet, public transit and other ad hoc matters as assigned. Meetings will be held in the City Council Conference Room, 6200 Southcenter Boulevard, Tukwila, Washington. 3. Planning and Community Development Committee meetings shall be held on the second Monday of every month commencing at 5:30 p.m. This Committee will provide policy recommendations on legislative matters relating to housing policies and programs, planning and land use, annexations, building and development regulations, code enforcement, economic development, tourism, workforce development, environment and sustainability, and other ad hoc matters as assigned. Meetings will be held in the City Council Conference Room, 6200 Southcenter Boulevard, Tukwila, Washington. 4. Finance and Governance Committee meetings shall be held on the fourth Monday of every month commencing at 5:30 p.m. This Committee will provide policy recommendations on legislative matters relating to financial management and fiscal operations of the City, administrative services, insurance, personnel, compensation, technology systems, government performance, public records, City Hall/6300 Building, and other ad hoc matters as assigned. Meetings will be held in the Hazelnut conference room, 6200 Southcenter Boulevard, Tukwila, Washington. Section 3. The City Council will convene in Work Session meetings on varying topics on the first and third Monday of every month commencing at 5:30 p.m. Section 4. In the event a holiday falls on a Monday, there will be no Council Committee meetings during that week. Time sensitive matters may be placed directly on a Committee of the Whole agenda, or a Committee meeting may convene with approval by two members and notice to the public. Section 5. Repealer.
