A special meeting of the Town council of the Town of
Tukwila was called to order by the mayor, Chas. 0. Laker, at
3 P.M. Councilmen present were Stan i:.inkler, Joe Aliment and
A.E.Heemink.
The purpose of the meeting, was to accept the resignation of
a councilman, to elect a man to fill this vacancy, to administer
the oath of office to two councilmen and to discuss a petition
to close the Tukwila Quarry.
The oath of office was administered to A.v.Thies, elected
to fill a vacancy left by the resignation of Vic 1 ;orth.
The resignation of B.P.L.utes,councilman, was presented and
upon motion, was accepted. Mr. E.K.Sciford was elected to fill
this vacancy and was sworn in as councilman.
Mayor Baker stated a petition was on file to close the
Tukwila Quarry as a hazard. The Clerk read the title of the
petition.:
A.L.Morgan, operator of the Quarry, spoke in defence of
his work.His lawyer Mr. Walthew and :,Ir. Aennedy, Supt. of
blasting also spoke.
Several members of the audience spoke concerning the
damage done to homes.
The mayor reviewed the action of the council relative to
the opening and operation of the --,uarry; the meetings held to
discuss the proposed Quarry and the Ordinance drawn up ana adopted
to control the Quarries in the Town. He stated thAt John Homer,
legal consultant for the Association of Washington Cities, had
advised the Clerk that the Town can take no action to close the
Quakrynsin#e the Quarry has a Town license to operate tinder
Ordinance #132 and has not violated the provisions of this
ordinance.
The Mayor appointed a committee; Mr. Fouty, I:Ir. Avoledo,
Mr. Aliment and Mr. E.K.Sciford to further discuss the matter
and decide what action would be taken.
Meeting adjourned at 9 :50.
