NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the City's Arts Commission will meet on January 21, 2026, at 6 p.m.
This meeting will be held in person and on Teams in the Executive Conference Room at the Tukwila Community Center,
12424 42nd Avenue South. For questions, please call the Arts Commission Staff Liaison, Michael May, at 206-767-2342.

AGENDA:
Call to Order/LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: The City of Tukwila is located on the ancestral lands of the Coast Salish
people. We acknowledge their continuing connections to land, waters, and culture. We pay our respect to their elders
past, present and emerging.

Commissioner Reports:
• Reports
o Portrait Project Update (Kamla Kakaria)
• Process of nomination needs to be determined. To be considered:
• Choosing an artist
• Identifying and reaching out to communities for sources of nominees, including
advertising
• How and where portraits will be displayed
• Kamla Kakaria will send the planning document as a shared doc for commissioners to
provide input.
o Grant Program
• The grant program can now be activated since the Mayor has agreed to support two $2500 city -
funded grants.

• Pat Bako has asked the commissioners to review the grant program outline. Once reviewed, Pat
will reach out to the mayor again finalize the city -funded grant program.
o Teen Art Collective
• Students will be visiting Sheila Coppola's studio to learn and try out printing.
o State of the City Cover
• Sheila Coppola has developed cover prototypes, which she shared with the commission.
• New Business
o Tukwila Pond Improvements
• Pinky Estell shared the Tukwila Pond improvement proposal at the January 14 Park Commission
meeting during public comment. The document will be on the agenda for the February Park
Commission meeting.
• Next steps: Art Commission will vote to sign on in support of the document to present to the
City Council. The commission will ask the City Council to adopt a resolution directing Parks staff
to develop a plan to secure funds for park improvements.
• ACTION: the commission voted in favor to present to council in support of the resolution.
Staff Reports
• 1% Fund Balance: $159,200 Michael will ask what parameters it can be spent on and if it can be invested.
• Fort Dent Park Sewer Lift Station Update: Cancelled
• Artist Recruitment &Jury Selection for Duwamish Sport Court Mural
• Old Fire Station 52: Parks & Recreation has a $26,000 grant for feasibility research. Environmental clean-up
needs.
• World Cup Art at Watch Party Locations (Southcenter Viewing Lounge, and TIB - Foster Stadium/Sullivan
Center) and Block Party location at Baker Boulevard
o Art wanted: Street Banners and Thermoplastic Art
