HomeMy WebLinkAbout1952-04-15 Special MinutesA Special meeting of the Town Council of Tukwila was called to order by the Mayor, Chas. 0. Baker, at 3 P.M. Councilmen present were Stan Minkler, k.W..Regel G.T.Jewell and A.G.Radford. The Meeting was called to take up the water situation, the lighting at the bus stop, street and Park problems. Mr. Jewell was asked together with mr. Slade to confer with State Highway dept. regarding adequate light at the cross =walk on the Highway. Parking in front of the stores on the highway was discussed. It was decided to look into this more fully. The serious Water situation was discussed at length. They re- viewed the fact that the water main in the river broke on July 3,1951, it was repaired and for about 5 months the meter reading dropped each month until in January 1952 it failed to register. The meter was repaired and the loss continued, indicating an en- larging leak.. The Council was informed that during the previous week the Master meter had been checked and found to be in good working order. They were also informed that starting April 14, at 3 A.M. and continuing till April 21 at 8 A.M. the 6" line in the river will be shut off, giving us an oportumity to determine if the loss is.in the river or elsewhere. They discussed the fact that loss of water has been increasing for several years it being evident that the supply line will have to be replaced in the near future. Mr. Harstad of Metcalf and Harstad, Consulting Engineers, ga an estimate of cost to replace the supply line. ne also gave the approximate cost of sinking a test well and the possibilities of sec &ring water for the Town from such a well, showing the saving the Town could make when no longer paying the City of Seattle for our water. He stated the Town could pay for a well and the necessary pipe and reservoir by issuing Revenue bonds. A meeting of the Water Committee 6f the Council was called for April 29 at 8 P.M.
