HomeMy WebLinkAbout1957-07-29 Special MinutesNotes on informal meeting of July 29, 1957 On Monday, July 29, 1957, at 3 p.m. members of the Tukwila Town Council met with Mr. Paul W. Seibert, who represents r'rederick E. Baker Associates who are taking care of Advertising and Public Relations for the Port of Seattle. When the Port condemns and acquires property in Town will we be compensated for streets we have improved and water lines which are condemned. Mr. Baker stated we are willing to set up a Planning Commission to work with the Fort of Seattle. We were assured press releases would be available in local South End papers. An evening meeting would be appreciated. 207 Mr. Seibert said his purpose was to give information to the areas interested and affected by the straightering and dredging of the Duwamish River. Mr. Baker called Mr. Seibert's attention to the fact that no Town Officials have been invitdd to any Port Meeting during the ;Engineering Study and at this time we would like to know whether the Port of Seattle intends to extend the Port District into the boundaries of Tukwila without consulting the Town. Mr. Seibert expressed surprise when he was told that part of the Port District would be within the boundaries of the Town of Tukwila and also stated he thought Port Officials were not aware of this fact. Mr. Seibert thought the next meeting would be an open meeting with an Advisory committee from the Town Council meeting with members of the Port Commission and if possible with appraisers. he said they had a time table which was available. It called for appraisers to be engaged in July '57 and to complete their appraisals and give their report from Jan.'53 through March. The Port will ac- quire the property they will need in Feb.through April '53, construct- ion of bridges and other dmprovements will follow. The following are some of the questions raised by the L'our.cil. Mr. baker pointed out that we have a Building Code and issue permits for all construction of buildings in the Tmwn. He asked if the Town will continue to issue permits for buildings erected on the property the Port of Seattle is acquiring. He also asked if the Town will be permitted to approve or reject new business coming into Tukwila, in accordance with our existing ordinances even though it is locating on Port property and may we require a control of noise, odor and smoke.
