The minutes of the meeting of Aug. 5th were read and approved as
read. The minutes of the Special meeting of Aug. 23, were read and
approved as read.
The Clerk read a letter from the Advisory Council of the So. central
School Dist., includin g minutes of the Council stating that, at the
Sept. meeting there would be a vote taken on the proposal to charge
every member organization a fee of w3.00 per year. The Council agreed
that, by law, they cannot pay such a fee from Town funds and so in-
structed their representatives.
Mayor Baker reviewed the progress on the annexation program south
of Tukwila. lie stated that Renton, through their Chamber of Commerce
have proceeded in an annexation program that would surround our southT
ern limits. When aware of this situation I:Ir. Baker contacted Renton
Officials and met with then a number of times, explaining Tukwila's
plan to expand to the south and urging then to reconsider and revise
their plans. Mr. baker vead a letter from T.Ir. Alden See, Jr., Chairman
of the Expansion and Development Committee of the Renton Chamber of
Lommerce, in which he presented his resignation as Chairman, the letter
was addressed to Mr. ooard Shaw, The ttenton Chamber of
Commerce. He stated in part; quote, "If we do not depete the area west
of the railroad tracts we would, if successful in our annexation pro-
gram, stifle the City of Tukwila for all time as far as any industrial_
development is concerned. I am personally convinced that Tukwila has
this above named area under control and will inevitably win out over
our program unless we would apply the law of assessed valuation, which
would, in my opinion, be an unfair means of acquisition. I think that
the Mayor and Officials of Tukwila are entitled to receive the co -oper-
ation and honest report from the City of Renton. To this date I am
certain this has not been the case. I told 'Mayor baker of Tukwila that
if the board of 'Directors would not ratify my recommendation t would
resign, as 1 would think a grage injustice woula be committed. T am
keeping my word in this matter and 1 think we as a °hamber of Commerce
are not acting as befits our station in this matter. I do not blame
the Board of Directors of the Chamber for this action, as they know
nothing of what has transpired. I do however, blame certain officials
and citizens of Renton who are intent on staying under cover while they
use our Chamber as a pawn to push this unfair situation through."
Current bills were read and upon motion ordered paid.
