HomeMy WebLinkAbout1957-10-23 Special MinutesOctober 23, 1957 A Special meeting of the Tukwila Town Council was called to order by the Mayor, Chas. 0. baker, at 3 P.M. Councilmen present were Stan lvlinkler, Rudolf Hegel, A. .Radford, Melvin Watkins and Wynn Anderson. Mr. Baker stated the meeting had been called to receive a petition for annexation of an area south of the Town of Tukwila, and to hear a report pf the Planning ,south regarding Zoning. Mr. Ronald Doyle, Chairman of the Annexation Committee stated he had a petition to present but first desired to note one exception by Mr Kerman Schoenbackler and his wife Ruth Schoenbachler who agreed 1st. to sign the petition for annexation requesting the annexation of the entire parcel described,to the City of Tukwila, a municipal corporation. 2nd. City agrees upon annexation to immediately classify and zone all of the portion of said parcel now owned by owner in a zone or use district under the zoning ordinance of the City to permit owner to continue to use owner's property for farming, dairying and agricultural purposes for an indefinite future period not less than 10 years, it being understood that the zoning would be an agricultural classifi- cation; amd- 3rd. City agrees to refrain from adopting any other regulation or ordinance which would prohibit or prevent owner from continuing such agricultural use or in any way prevent or make such use impossible during the next 10 years. 4th. City agrees, upon request of owner, to rezone or reclassify property of owner included in the property above described, such reclassification to be from agricultural to industrial or controlled manufacturing, or to such other zoning classification or land use as may be designated by owner provided such requested classification is permitted by the comprehensive plan and zoning ordinance of City and compatible to the existing use of surrounding property. It was moved by Mr. Regel and seconded by Mr. 'dinkier that the Council grant the request of Merman Schoenbachler.and his wife Ruth. Motion carried unanimously. Mr. Doyle then presented to the Council a Petition for annexation signed by the owners of not less than 75p in value according to the assessed valuation for general taxation, of the property sought to be annexed, setting forth a description of the property and accompanied by a plat outlining the boundaries of tiie property sought to.dbe annexed. Mr. Strander Chairman of the Tukwila Planning Commission, stated that since many were waiting to bring in industries the Commission think it necessary to rezone the area in Tukwila east of Interurban Avenue So. He presented 2 Resolutions passed by the Planning 0 ommission at a meeting on October 24, 1957. Namely "That the Planning Commission recommend to the Town Council the adoption of C -M Zone, Industrial Park .liAtrict "To recommend the adoption of said C -M one to all that area east of Interurban Avenue, except for the following restriction: r'or that area bounded by South 139th Street on the North, the present Duwamish River channel on the East, the future extension of South 147th Street on the South, and Interurban Avenue on the lest, 227 It was moved by Mr. Minkler and seconded by Mr. Anderson that the Council find to ,its satisfaction that the petition for annexation,filed with the Council, complied with the requirements of law and that the petition be accepted; that Tuesday, November 12, 1957, at 3 P.M. be set for a public hearing thereon and that the Clerk be instructed to publish said notice of hearing in a newspaper of general circulation and post notices of hearing in 3 public places within the area to be annexed. iviotion carried. industrial development stall be permitted only upon the approval of owners of 75% of the assessed valuation of all property within the foregoing described area." Mr. Bergstrom, Secretary of the Planning Commission, read the requirements of C -M Zone, Industrial Park District. Mr. Sbrander stated they considered the C -M Lone, the controlled Zone, most adaptable for this area. It was moved and carried that the Clerk be instructed to draw up a 4 oning ordinance to comply with the recommendations of the Planning Commission and present it at the next regular meeting.
