HomeMy WebLinkAbout1959-05-04 Regular MinutesThe regular meeting of the Tukwila Town Council was called to order by the :Yiayor,! Chas. C. Baker, at 3 P.M. Councilmen present were Stan Minkler, A. G. Radford, Wynn Anderson and L. R. Frese. This date having been set for a public hearing on a petition for annexation Mayor Baker read the notice of public hearing as published in the Seattle Times of April 23th. he asked for either oral or written protests and there were none. Mr. baker stated that he had not yet received a breakdown of the assessed valuation of the area in question. Mr. Minkler moved that,in as much as the Council could not approve the petition until an accurate valuation was known, the hearing be continued until ay 13, 1959, at 8:00 P.M. Idotion seconded and carried. Mr. Baker read a letter from the County Assessor in reply to one written by the mayor regarding funds paid by towns and cities into Flood Control taxes and which were spent only outside municipalities. The Assessor defended this contention anti stated that towns must take responsibility for flood control within their town limits. The Council members disagreed, however, and plan to look into the matter further. This study was referred to the Committee on Flood Control. The report of the water aept. was read and placed on file. Mr. Mimkler reported 9 building permits issued in April, with a valuation of X34,500. 6 for construction ana 3 moving permits. Resolution No. 993 of the City of râ– enton, declaring its policy with respect to the operation within the Bity of rtenton of Longacres Race Tract, was read and discussed at length. Questions such as the following arose. Could rtenton exempt one business, such as Longacres, from Business and Occupational tax and all other taxes and at the same time continue to impose the same types of taxes on all other business operating in the City of rtenton. Also, can future Renton City councils be bound by this Res. No. 993, passed by the present council and approved by the present r.layor. It was moved by Stan Minkler, seconded ana carried that a copy of Renton resolution iuo. 993 be attached to the minutes of this .meeting. Meeting recessed at 9 :35 p.m. to meet on May 11, 1969 at 3 p.in.
