The recessed meeting of the Tukwila Town Council was called to
order by the Mayor, Charles 0. Baker, at 8 P.M. Councilmen present
were Stan Minkler, A. G. Radford, Wynn Anderson, D. R. Frese and
R. K. Doyle.
This date having been set for a Public Hearing on a proposed
rezoning Mr. baker read the recommendation of the Tukwila Planning
Commission and the Notice of Public Hearing published in the Seattle
Times on July 2, 1959, both of which described the area as lying
adjacent to the north edge of the Renton -Three Tree Point Road,
presently zoned R -4 and E -R -0 and proposed to be zoned C -1.
Mr. baker asked for opinions of those present, either for or
against the proposed rezoning.
Mr. Goldsmith of 6233 S. 154th stated he was in favor of the
rezoning of the area in question to C -1, or better zoning, He felt
that E -R -O zoning was very restrictive and unfair to those hopeing
to develop their property.
Mrs. C. T. raker of 6230 S. 154th, also felt the present zoning
too restrictive and thought office buildings could be made attractive.
She said she and her husband would like to convert their land to
income property.
Mr. Drew of 15447 65th S. stated he was in favor of the present
zoning. He said he felt it important to establish a long range goal
and to examine this zoning in the light of our Comprehensive Plan,
to change as the need arises and to discover the type of commercial
development we desire in this area and when we will want it. Mr.
Drew said he saw no immediate need of rezoning and requested it be
left as now zoned.

Mayor Baker read the minutes of the meeting of the Tukwila Planning
Commission for July 16, 1959, in which the above mentioned rezoning
was thoroughly discussed. Mr. Anderson moved these minutes be made a
part of the record of this meeting, seconded by Mr. Radford and
carried.
Mr. Wells McCurdy, representing South Center Corporation, referred
to the minutes of the Planning Commission for July 16 and stated he
was in favor of giving the Comptehensive Plan more time in its present
form and was not in favor of a change at this time.

Mr. Harold Iverson, also representing South Center Corporation,
referred to the minutes of the Planning Commission.
Mr. Minkler stated he was receiving requests for business locations
and felt some consideration should be given these requests.
There being no further protests Mayor baker asked the Council if
they wished to make a decision at this time.
Mr. Anderson suggested the Council postpone the decision for a
week in order to study the statements presented and moved the Hearing
be continued until Tuesday, July 28, 1959, at 7 P.M.; motioned
seconded by Mr. Doyle and carried.
Mr. baker asked Mr. Zepp to report on the progress of replacing
of the water main east of the river. Mr. Zepp stated the work was
progressing.
There was some discussion regarding the debris left where the store
was torn down at the corner of Interurban Ave. S. and S. 58th St. It
was recommended the owners be requested to clean up the area as soon
as possible.
An application for a Business License was presented and referred
to Mr. Anderson, Chairman of the License committee, with the request
he investigate the request and bring back a report to the Council.
