Minutes of the meeting of 24 August, 1959, held at the Renton City Hall at 8 p.m.
,Acting Chairman, Mayor Charles 0. Baker, Tukwila, called the meeting to order.
Present were all Directors, most of the Commissioners, as well as Mayors Joe Baxter,
Renton; Jack Denise, Auburn; and Alex Thornton, Kent.
Chairman Baker read correspondence and commented upon the great amount of interest which
the organization was creating.
The report of the Directors' meeting pertaining to nominations for permanent officers
was read. Those nominated by the Directors were:
Jack Sprenger, Auburn, for Chairman
John B. Strander, Tukwila, for Vice Chairman
Don Bell, Jr., Kent, for Secretary- Treasurer
These men were elected to the posts indicated.
Motion made and passed that Tukwila appoint one additional Director to take Strander's
place.
Mayor Joe Baxter volunteered to make up letterheads.
Mayor Baker discussed outside groups who had shown an interest in becoming a part of the
Commission.
The members felt that these outside groups should be invited to express their
opinions, but they should not be invited to join the group at this time.
Mayor Baker turned the meeting over to Vice Chairman John B._.Strander who presided in
the absence of Chairman Jack Sprenger.
There being no agenda Chairman Strander suggested general discussion. Some of the points
brought out were:
1. The Commission should prepare a map showing the exact area which we intend
to serve.
2. We need By -Laws.
3. Should appoint a facilities location committee.
4. The various Planning Commissions (Kent, Renton, Tukwila, Auburn) should be
called together to discuss over -all planning.
5. We need more information on what facilities and utilities already exist in
the valley and how to go about adding those which are needed.
6. We should contact the State about roads in the valley.
7. We should work toward creating an over -all plan for the valley.
The meeting was adjourned at approximately 10 p.m.
