VALLEY INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION
The meeting of September 28, 1959 was called to order at 8 p.m. at the
Auburn City Hall by Vice Chairman John B. Strander. Members and direc-
tors were present as per the attached register.
Mayor Alex Thornton, Kent, announced the appointment of Mr. John Fournier
as the fifth member of the Industrial Commission, representing Kent.
Mayor Charles 0. Baker, Tukwila, announced the appointment of J. F.
Grier as a director, representing Tukwila, replacing John B. Strander,
formerly a director and now Vice Chairman of the Valley Industrial Com-
mission.
Chairman Strander brought up a recommendation made by Mr. Peters to ob-
tain a map of the area to be studied by this commission and passed
around to the various cities, asking the city engineers to show the
facilities available in each area. Mayor Alex Thornton of Kent sug-
gested that he investigate the possibility of using one of the Kent
maps that had been replaced.
The directors from each area were asked to contact their Chamber of
Commerce, requesting a $25.00 contribution from each to give the com-
mission something to operate on.
Mr. Strander then presented the mayors, directors and officers of the
commission a copy of the progress report of the Puget Sound Regional
Planning Council and discussed it briefly and suggested that it be
studied and passed on to other members of the commission. It was moved
and seconded that the Secretary be instructed to write a letter to the
planning council thanking them for the several free copies.
Mr. Erle Barnes of Boeing was introduced and gave an interesting talk
on the valley highway picture. The discussion was centered around a
map that he had prepared, showing the expectant highway improvements
to be made in this area within the next five years and gave a general
progress report on them.
The Secretary was instructed to write Mr. Paul McKay, extending him
an invitation to attend our next meeting on October 26, 1959, which
at the invitation of Mr. Charles 0. Baker, Mayor of Tukwila, will be
held at the Foster Golf Course club house, at 8 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Don Bell, Jr., Secretary
