HomeMy WebLinkAbout1959-12-07 Regular MinutesThe regular meeting of the Tukwila Town Council was called to order by the ivlayor, Charles G. baker, at 3:00 p.m. Louncilmen present were tan Minkler, A. G. Radford, Wynn Anderson and R. K. Doyle. A letter of resignation from councilman L. R. Frese was received and read. Mr. Frese has been transferred to Florida for an indefiate period of time. It was moved, seconded and carried that his resig- nation be accepted. The Council asked for time to consider someone to fill the vacancy. Mir. titinkler moved a Resolution be drawn up in appreciation for Mr. Frese services as Councilman, seconded by Mr. Radford and carried. Resolution No. 120, designating Monday, December 7, 1959, as Civil Defense Day, was read. Mr. Radford moved the adchption of the Resolution, seconded by Mr. Anderson and carried. The minutes of the November meeting were read and approved as read. Current bills were read and upon motion ordered paid. The report of the Water dept. was read and placed on file. Mr. Minkler reported 1 building permit issued in November. Announcement was made of the Firemens' Christmas Party to be held on ilunday, December 2010 Application was received from David Taylor, Merchant Patrolman, for a Business license. Mr. Winkler reported that Mr. Taylor had appeared before the Police Commission and had the approval of that body. Mr,. He thanked the firemen who answered the call to help sand bag a dike. he proposed a co- ordinated effort for flood emergency and suggested a survey of the damage done. Mr. maker appointed Mr. Lepp to work with Mr. Doyle on this survey. Mayor baker reported he had received many calls from people thanking the firemen and members of the,Gouneil:for their faithful work at that time. Mr. baker read letters exchanged between Mr. Winters, County Engineer, regarding flood control. Mr. Minkler presented the request of the Contractor for John Graham Co. for an extension of the completion date for the opening of 57th Ave. So., south of So. 152nd St. to June, 1960.as a matter of public safety. After some discussion it was moved by Mr. Doyle that this request be granted and that, in the interest of public safety 57th Ave. So., south of So. 152nd St. should remain closed as a public thoroughfare until June, 1960; But a temporary road, for emergency vehicles should be put through immediately and main- tained, the road to be barricaded at each end, for emergency vehicles only; seconded by Mr. idinkler and carried. zhe Council advised that warning signs and a reflector should be placed on a fence across a road ending in jump off. The Street Committee reported an inspection of the extension of S. 149th, made by Mr. Carl Reed, showed the street has not been con- structed according to Town Street specifications and cannot be accepted until it does meet said specifications. A copy of this report to be sent to Mr. Reed. December 7, 1959(continued) A letter from the Tukwila planning Commission recommended to the Town Council that all that area lyinE, immediately to the north and adjacent to South 154th Street (Renton Three Tree Point Road) which is presently zoned E -R -O, be rezoned to C -1. Mr. Minkler moved that the Council set January 11, 1930, in the Tukwila Town Hall, at 3:00 p.in., as the time ana place at which a Public Hearing will be held on this recornmandation, seconded by +ir. Anderson and carried. A second communication from the Planning Commission recommended to the Town Council that a portion of the existing R -1 -9.6 zone, roughly described as having a northerly boundary at approximately South 143rd Street extended, an easterly boundary adjoining the existing westerly boundatu of the C -1 zone, a southerly boundary at approxi- mately South 152nd Street extended and a westerly boundary running northerly along the centerlines of 65th Avenue South to South 149th Street then westerly to Division Street, then northerly along Division Street to South 147th Street then westerly to a line extended from the easterly border of the first tier of lots lying easterly of 59th Avenue South then northerly along this line to point of beginning, be rezoned. to R -4. Mr. Minkler moved that the Council set January 11, 1960, at 3 :00 p.m., in the Tukwila Town Hall, as the time and place at which a Public Hearing will be held on this recommendation, seconded by Mr. Anderson and carried. Mr. Anderson read a draft of a proposed ordinance regarding peddlers. It was proposed iMir. Winters, County Road Engineer be invited to attend our next meeting.
