VALLEY INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION
MINUTES OF MEETING OF MAY 23, 1960
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Jack Sprenger at 8:15 p.m. Members,
directors and guests were present as per the attached register.
A report was made on progress of the Drainage Committee operating under direction of
the four cities and King County. It was reported that Tukwila and Renton had voted
for sponsorship of a Resolution to the Department of Agriculture requesting a study
of the drainage problem in the valley area. It was reported that Kent had referred
the Resolution to committee for study. Mayor Jack Denise of Auburn offered to check
on Auburn's position. It was also reported that the county engineers would spear-
head the request once it had been approved by all four cities.
Chairman Sprenger read the suggested letter furnished by Seattle Area Industrial
Council which requested the finding of House bill adopted May 18, 1956.
Resolution No. 1064 of Renton was read for the purpose of comparing its aims and
purposes with those in suggested Resolution by Seattle Area Industrial Council.
Mayor Baker of Tukwila advised the request to the Department of Agriculture could
be financed from 73% to 100% by Federal Funds.
It was moved by John Strander and seconded by Harold Iverson that suggested Resolution
by Seattle Area Industrial Council be tabled after general discussion. The motion
carried.
It was moved and seconded that the commission go on record endorsing the Resolution
to the Department of Agriculture. The Secretary was directed to draft a Resolution
to be approved at special board meeting to be sent with letters of endorsement to
Department of Agriculture, County Engineers, Seattle Area Industrial Council and to
our Senators and Representatives.
Harold Iverson reported briefly on Puget Western interest in Andover project.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:40 and coffee and refreshments were served by Tukwila
firemen.
Respectfully submitted,
Don Bell, Jr.
Secretary
