HomeMy WebLinkAbout1960-09-12 Special Minutes September 12, 1960 Mayor Charles O. Baker called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Councilmen present were Stan Minkler, A. G. Radford, R. K. Doyle, E. W. Ives and Jerry Hamilton. The place of meeting for the nearing on the proposed 'reeway routes in Tukwila was discussed by the Council Since a large I attendance can be anticipated consideration was given to holding it in the Foster High School Gymnasium. It was reported School officials were willing to allow the meeting to be held in the Gymnasium. Mr. Doyle moved we request the State Highway officials hold the Hearing in the Foster High School Gymnasium on October 7, 1960, seconded by Mr. Hamilton and carried. Mr. Doyle moved Ord. No. 310, the budget for 1961, be placed on its first reading, seconded by Mr. Hamilton and carried. Mr. Minkler and Mr. Doyle were excused to attend a meeting of the Renton City Council. Mayor Baker declared a short recess at 7:45 pm. September 12, 1960(continued) At 8 :00 P.M. Mayor Charles G. Baker again called the meeting to order. Since this was the day and hour previously set by the Town Council for a Public Hearing on a petition for rezoning. Mayor Baker read the petition which had been signed by owners of properties associated together and lying within the area circum- scribed by Renton Three -Tree Point Aoad on the north; 57th Avenue So. on the East; So. 162nd on the South and 53rd Ave. So. on the West. Mayor Baker explained that the Council had received a previous request, also in the path of the Freeway routes and had gone along with the request of the State Highway Lepartment to defer final action until the freeway routes are officially and finally estab- lished. Most of those property owners who had signed the petitions were present, and took part in a discussion. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Smith, Mr. Henry Graves, Mrs. Edna Larson and Mr. Patrick McCarthy were among those who raised questions concerning the position of the Council and their reasons for desiring a rezone. Mayor baker stated that if there were no Highway which would probably take most of the area under discussion a zoning of C -2 would be suitable. Mr. Minkler and Mr. Doyle returned at 9 :10 and took their places at the Council table. Mr. Radford moved the Council rezone to C -2 so much of the property described in the petition as lies outside the boundaries of the freeways and Interchanges, provided that such boundaries be officially and finally established by a map filed with the Town Council not later than January 1, 1961. if such a map is not filed with the Town Council by January 1, 1961, the rezoning of all the property described in the petition becomes permanent; seconded by Mr. Doyle and carried. Mr. Minkler reported on the meeting he and mr. Boyle had attended earlier in the evening. They had met with the Renton City Council and two representatives of Seattle City Light Renton and Tukwila agreed to work together on the matter of locating transmission lines in their respective cities. f''urther meetings^ would be coming up in the future. At the close of the meeting Mr. henry Graves stated he wished to go on record as not favoring the action taken by the Tukwila Council regarding the zoning. Ma.yor Baker reported that he had met with the State Highway Department and the developers of Southcenter and they had asked for additional time to coordinate their plans regarding the vacation and relocation of streets and had suggested meeting on September 28th at 8 :00 p.m. instead of on September 14th at 8 :00 P.M. for the conttn.uation of the hearing. Mr. Minkler moved-- th -e--- Hering of said vacations be held at 8 :00 P.M., September 28th instead of 8 :00 P.M. September 14th; seconded by Mr. Radford and carried.
