HomeMy WebLinkAbout1960-12-05 Regular MinutesDecember 5, 1960 The regular meeting of the Tukwila Town Louncil was called to order by the Mayor, Charles 0. =taker, at 3 p.m. Councilmen present were Stan Minkler, A. G. Radford, E. W. Ives and Berry Hamilton. Bias were received and opened for a new Police car. Four bids were made. The bid of Pope Ford of Renton of d2459.56 was accepted by motion of Mr. biinkler ana seconded by r. Raafora, delivery promised in approximately 30 days, the bid of Smith -Uanay of 42650, less Fed- eral tax received second choice, motion carried. Mr. Davis, representing Pope -Fora Company, promised to provide the town with a certified check for 5% Of the bid price. Minutes of the November meeting was read and approved as read. Current bills were examined and upon motion ordered paid. Mr. Drew reported on Public Schools. 503.60 135.06 134 .14 53.52 20.14 250.53 19.76 13.00 6.11 6.68 The report of Mr. Minkler recommended reflector and warning signs be placed on 59th Avenue South at the turn near 58th Avenue South. Mayor Baker appointed Mr. Zepp and Mr. Parker, Marshal, to work on it. Mr. Hamilton reported he had investigated a number of sewage dis- posal plants. There was a lengthy discussion regarding future plans for a town sewer system. Nick Heinz, Fire Chief, reported on the fire which destroyed the home of the T. E. Dahls with the death of one of their sons. mayor) Baker commended the Fire department for their successful efforts to save the other homes nearby. A letter was presented from the Planning Commission recommending a zoning of R -M -H be placed on an area north of South 160th Street and a zoning of R -1 -9.6 on the area South of South 160th Street in the area annexed by Ordinance No. 306 Mr. Minkler moved the Council accept the recommendation of the Planning Commission and that tL.e property annexed by Ordinance 306 shown above seconded by Mr. Hamilton and carried. The Planning Commission also recommended that a rezone to R -4 be allowed on property at 16205 54th Avenue South. Mr. Minkler moved the recommendation be accepted and a Public Hearing be held on January 16, 1961, at 8 :00 P.M., seconded by Mr. Ives and carried Mr. Strander reported on a meeting at Redmond, at which he and mayor Baker explained our Valley Industrial Commission. Mayor Baker outlined the background and Mr. Strander followed with a progress report. They nad been invited by the cities in that area to aid the in setting up a similar Industrial Commission. Mir. Minkler read a letter from the office of the King County .engineers regarding plans for flood control. Mayor Baker commended the Valley cities who worked so faithfully for the passage of Proposition No. 1. Mr. Minkler reported on the slide on South 162nd Street. Mr. Robinson, who lives in that area, spoke of the condition near his home. and was concerned that leaning trees might endanger the lives of children playing in the area. Members of the Council who inspected the area on December 5th reported numerous cracks in the street and on private property. Mr. Minkler moved the Contractor be requested to fall all trees leaning in a dangerous manner and to fence the entire slide area, including South 162nd Street seconded by Mr. Ives and carried. The Council requested a meeting of those affected on Monday, December 12, 1960, and suggested Mr. Burzenski, Project Engineer, be invited to be present. December 5, 1960(continued) The Planning Commission furtner recoanmended that permission be allowed to construct a telephone equipment building on the S.L. corner A of Tract 2, Interurban Addition to Seattle. Mr. Radford moved that permission be granted to construct such a building anal that a business`` license be issued upon request, seconded by Mr. Minkler ana carried. Authority was given ivir. Minkler to issue the building permit and Ivir. Hamilton the business license. wiayor baker informed the Council he was appointing Mr. Anton Swanson as patrolman, Mr. Swanson having acted in this capacity since September lst. Moir. Minkler moved the Council confirm this appointment, seconded by Mr. Lainilton and carried. iviayor baker commended bir. Swansob for his conduct during his three months of probation and ad- ministered to hire the oath of office. Mr. Zepp made a request for a used clump truck. Mr. iladford moved we purchase such a truck and that we advertise for bias to be opened on January 3, 1961, seconded by Mr. Ives and carried. Mr. Zepp also requested permission to buy a chain saw. The Council were agreeable. Meeting recessed at 10 :15 to meet on December 12, at 3 P.M.
