HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes 1295 - Declare Emergency to Repair River Bank Erosion IL& w J V J G) i 1908 City of T Washington Resolution No. 1295 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, DECLARING AN EMERGENCY EXISTS THAT REQUIRES RIVER BANK EROSION REPAIRS AND AUTHORIZING EMERGENCY EXPENDITURES. WHEREAS, a substantial amount of erosion has occurred on the Duwamish River on the west side of East Marginal Way South, approximately 300 feet north of the Boeing Access Road within the last week to ten days; and WHEREAS, the erosion undermined a portion of East Marginal Way South roadway shoulder and threatened the stability of U.S. West fiber -optic cable, pole and vault; and WHEREAS, another rain storm or high river and draw down event may further undercut East Marginal Way South and may topple the pole; and WHEREAS, the pole may fall into traffic of East Marginal Way South, a high volume traffic corridor, and the transmission line which serves the Boeing Aircraft Company may be broken and services disrupted; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, DO HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Heavy rains have accelerated erosion of the Duwamish River's east bank approximately 300 feet north of the Boeing Access Road, necessitating immediate emergency repairs to stabilize river bank and preserve existing utilities. Section 2. Competitive bidding requirements are hereby dispensed with and the Mayor is authorized to expend an estimated $50,000 from the Surface Water Management Fund to construct erosion controls and provide temporary stability.
