Resolution No. 1315
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, OPPOSING THE CURRENT
PROPOSED REGIONAL TRANSIT PLAN.
WHEREAS, the Mayor, City Council, Citizens Advisory Board, Chamber of Commerce,
and South King County Area Transportation Board all recommended light rail should serve the
Southcenter area directly, and
WHEREAS, an at -grade line along Highway 99 does not conform to current
comprehensive plan planning for the highway and would disrupt normal traffic flows, and
WHEREAS, the City supports the addition of commuter rail through the valley and
increased bus routes portions of the current Plan, and
WHEREAS, the City of Tukwila worked to ensure the Regional Transit Plan would best
serve the City's citizens and all the workers in the City, and was not able to influence the Plan,
and
WHEREAS, the City worked unsuccessfully through the Regional Transit Plan Board to
try to effect changes in the proposal based on current and future proposed transit ridership, and
WHEREAS, the Regional Transit Plan has never addressed Tukwila's concerns about the
routing of the light rail line, and
WHEREAS, the current plan also does not serve east -west travel, relieve congestion on
I-405, or intersect with the commuter rail in the south end, and
WHEREAS, the Foster Community Club has passed a motion to oppose the Highway 99
routing;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA,
WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The Mayor and City Council oppose passage of the Regional Transit Plan as it is
currently constituted.
Section 2. The City Council specifically opposes the proposed routing of the Regional
Transit light rail at grade along Highway 99 and the lack of a reasonable plan for light rail along
the east -west corridor.
