A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF TUKWILA,
WASHINGTON SUPPORTING A SOUTH KING REGIONAL
HOUSING ENTITY TO PROVIDE HOUSING STRATEGIES
THAT ENHANCE AND REVITALIZE NEIGHBORHOOD
HOUSING AND PROMOTE HOME OWNERSHIP, AND TO
WORK WITH THE SOUTH KING COUNTY HOUSING FORUM
ON A REGIONAL HOUSING PLAN FOR SOUTH KING
COUNTY.
WHEREAS, Tukwila currently is a city of approximately 15,000 citizens, with more than its
share of affordable housing, and
WHEREAS, our current housing stocks consists of 60% multi family housing, and
WHEREAS, the city's comprehensive plan sets for the following objectives:
Policy 3.2.1 Support the regional fair -share funding of needed affordable housing and
the equitable distribution of these units.
Policy 3.2.4 Continue providing Tukwila's fair share of future regional low and
moderate income housing.
Policy 3.2.6 Develop public and private partnerships in providing low and moderate
income housing.
WHEREAS, we do not have the financial resources to adequately address all of our
housing needs without some outside technical and financial assistance,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA,
WASHINGTON DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. We support a South King Regional Housing Entity that promotes the following
goals:
(a) Enhance neighborhood stability.
(b) Promote home ownership opportunities.
(c) Provide technical and financial assistance for residential revitalization
(d) Provide assistance in rehabilitating existing low and moderate income housing.
(e) Create opportunities for voluntary collaboration and pooling of funding and resources
for designing housing programs compatible with each city's individual needs as
identified within their own comprehensive plans.
Section 2. Continue to work with the South King County Housing Forum and request that
the Mayor delegate and authorize an appropriate staff person to enter into negotiations with
neighboring South King County cities to develop the text of an interlocal agreement to create a
regional housing entity for South King County, and submit that text and a recommendation
regarding creation of such an entity to the Mayor and City Council for consideration no later than
August 15,1996.
