Resolution No. 1362 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, OPPOSING THE CURRENT
PROPOSED REGIONAL TRANSIT PLAN.
WHEREAS, both the City leaders and many community groups have expressed their support
for a comprehensive transit system that serves the City of Tukwila but have concerns with the
current plan, and
WHEREAS, many citizen groups as well as the elected officials in Tukwila have repeatedly
expressed their resistance to a light rail moving along Pacific Highway rather than on Interurban
through the Southcenter area and to the Interurban commuter rail station, and
WHEREAS, the City Council of Tukwila considers RTA's insistence on its original alignment
an affront to the public hearing process and the presumably open discussions with the City in
various meetings, where citizens and the City have made very clear their opposition to the
alignment along Highway 99, and
WHEREAS, RTA has refused to move their light rail route off of Highway 99, and
WHEREAS, the City cannot support any RTA proposal that uses Highway 99 as a route
through the City, and
WHEREAS, the Council believes the comments made by RTA saying they will consider an
Interurban route is only a tactic to placate Tukwila voters until the RTA vote is passed, after which
the Pacific Highway alignment will again be the only solution;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON,
HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The Mayor and City Council oppose passage of the Regional Transit Plan as it is
currently constituted.
Section 2. Until RTA proposes an alternative to a line along Pacific Highway in Tukwila, the
City will not support the RTA plan.
PASSED BY THE CI COUNCIL THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, at a regular
meeting thereof this 7 day of 1996.
