Resolution No. 1363 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA,
WASHINGTON REJECTING NON RESPONSIVE BIDS AND AWARDING THE BID
FOR FITNESS /EXERCISE EQUIPMENT FOR THE NEW TUKWILA COMMUNITY
CENTER TO THE LOWEST RESPONSIVE AND RESPONSIBLE BIDDER.
WHEREAS, the City did solicit competitive bids to acquire fitness /exercise equipment for the
new Tukwila Community Center; and
WHEREAS, such bids were opened by the City Clerk and read aloud on September 16, 1996;
and
WHEREAS, bids were received from Exercise Equipment Center, Universal Gym Equipment,
Inc. and Fitness Shop; and
WHEREAS, each bid was reviewed for conformance to the formal bid specifications issued at
the time bids were solicited; and
WHEREAS, the lowest apparent bidder, Fitness Shop, did not include an incline chest press
machine within their bid, and the Powerline brand did not meet specifications on eight pieces of
selectorized weight equipment; and
WHEREAS, the second lowest bidder, Universal Gym Equipment, Inc., did not meet
specifications on seven pieces of selectorized weight equipment or on all free weight benches; and
WHEREAS, the third lowest bidder did comply with all specifications as stipulated when bids
were solicited, thus providing a responsive bid for the purpose of competitive bidding as required in
RCW 35.23.352;
NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON HEREBY
RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The apparent low bid of $73,377.75 by Fitness Shop is rejected due to failure to meet
specifications and failure to bid on all items.
Section 2. The apparent second lowest bid of $78,056.13 by Universal Gym Equipment, Inc. is
rejected due to failure to meet specifications.
Section 3. The bid for fitness /exercise equipment for the new Tukwila Community Center is
hereby awarded to the lowest responsive and responsible bidder, Exercise Equipment Center, in the
amount of $79,399.32 (bid includes shipping and sales tax).
