A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA,
WASHINGTON, HONORING THE MEMORY OF MAYOR JOHN B. STRANDER.
WHEREAS, John B. Strander was born in Seattle in 1924; and
WHEREAS, John B. Strander studied landscape architecture at "Cornell University, and later ran Strander Nursery,
an award winning landscaping firm in the City of Tukwila; and
WHEREAS, John B. Strander served on the Tukwila Planning Commission during a critical period of the City's
development; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Strander was elected Mayor of the City of Tukwila, serving in that position from 1962 through
1967; and
WHEREAS, as Mayor, Mr. Strander implemented Tukwila's first residential sewers, water system upgrades and
basic industrial infrastructure, and played an instrumental role in the development of modern -day Tukwila; and
WHEREAS, with the death of John B. Strander, the City of Tukwila has lost one of its most valued citizens;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, hereby
expresses their condolences to the family of John B. Strander, and urge the citizens of Tukwila to join in honoring the
memory of one of the pioneer builders of our community as we know it today.
PASSED THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, at a regular meeting
thereof this 6 day of Roy.' 1998.
