A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, CHANGING THE NAME OF PACIFIC
HIGHWAY SOUTH TO TUKWILA INTERNATIONAL BOULEVARD.
WHEREAS, Pacific Highway was built as the Pacific Coast Highway in 1928 as the North -South
roadway linking the United States with Canada and Mexico; and
WHEREAS, with the construction of I -5, Pacific Highway ceased to remain the major thorough-
fare, resulting in a deterioration of much of the property along this route; and
WHEREAS, Tukwila incorporated a portion of Pacific Highway South into the city limits of the
City of Tukwila in 1989; and
WHEREAS, many citizens have worked together with the City to achieve a reduction in crime
and create a safer environment on Pacific Highway; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has recently adopted new design guidelines for the redevelopment
and improvement of this area; and
WHEREAS, the changing of the name of Pacific Highway South will help create a new image
consistent with these redevelopment plans; and
WHEREAS, population demographics reflect an increasing international character in the City;
and
WHEREAS, a portion of Pacific Highway just south of Tukwila's border has already been
renamed International Boulevard; and
WHEREAS, by renaming the portion of Pacific Highway South that runs through the City of
Tukwila to "Tukwila International Boulevard," travelers will be able to identify when they are entering
or leaving the City of Tukwila;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA,
WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The portion of Pacific Highway South from the City's southern boundary of the
roadway at S. 152nd Street to the highway's intersection with East Marginal Way and Boeing Access
Road on the north shall be renamed "Tukwila International Boulevard
