A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, DECLARING MARCH 29 -APRIL 4,
1999, AS "NATIONAL COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WEEK"
AND EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR THE COMMUNITY
DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, the City of Tukwila is a participant in the Community Development Block Grant
(CDBG) Program; and
WHEREAS, CDBG grants have helped cities throughout the country fund a variety of programs
in social services, housing, and economic development for the past twenty -four years; and
WHEREAS, Tukwila recognizes that the Community Development Block Grant program is a
partnership of federal, state and local government, businesses, non profit agencies and community
efforts, and that the services funded by CDBG have greatly benefited many citizens and communities;
and
WHEREAS, programs funded through Tukwila's CDBG program have included the Senior
Nutrition Coordinator; recreation programs for "at- risk" youth, the Human Services Plan review; Utility
Connection Assistance; housing repair; and a regional housing effort; and
WHEREAS, each of these programs filled a great need in our community; and
WHEREAS, the City plans to use 1999 CDBG funds for housing repair, Riverton Park
playground, minor home repair, utility connections, senior citizens' nutrition program support, a teen
leader and Regional Effort to Achieve Community Housing;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA,
WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That March 29 -April 4, 1999 be designated "National Community Development
Week" in Tukwila.
Section 2. That the U.S. Congress recognize the importance of the CDBG program to Tukwila,
the help it has provided to untold citizens and community groups in our City over the years, and its
continuing role needed to fill unmet needs of our poorest citizens.
PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, at a Special
Meeting thereof this 22, day of N., 1999.
