HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes 1453 - Treasures of Tukwila Annual Award for Outstanding Civic Contributions J o LA ,.y� V J i ��f tl� i 9 V Q 2, p r 1909 C ity of Tukwila Washington Resolution No. A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, ESTABLISHING A "TREASURES OF TUKWILA" ANNUAL AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING CIVIC CONTRIBUTIONS. WHEREAS, the City of Tukwila is recognized as a place where corporate citizens, residents, elected officials and staff work cooperatively to make Tukwila a better place to live, work and play; and WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to formally recognize individuals who have made significant, extraordinary contributions to the quality of life in our City; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Award established. A. A "Treasures of Tukwila" award shall be given on an annual basis to a citizen selected for his /her contribution to the civic health of the community; and B. Candidates may be nominated by citizens, any City commission or board, or a City employee; and C. A "Treasures of Tukwila" review committee, consisting of one representative chosen by the Mayor, one City Council representative, and the Volunteer Coordinator, will judge nominations on the following criteria: 1. The nominee should be a citizen of Tukwila in good standing with the City and the community. 2. The nominee should have made a substantial contribution to improve the civic life in a manner that is above and beyond the everyday efforts of many citizens. 3. The person's contribution should affect a meaningful segment of the community in a way that is positive, lasting, and worthy of recognition. D. The "Treasures of Tukwila" award committee will recommend a finalist to the Mayor, who will have final approval authority. The award recipient shall be chosen by June 30th of each year. Section 2. Award presentation. A. The recipient shall be honored at a meeting of the City Council, where he or she will be given a plaque, a proclamation, and /or other appropriate recognition. TREASURES OF TUKWILA 9 -00 B. The name of each "Treasures of Tukwila" honoree will be inscribed on a permanent plaque to be on display in a City facility.
