RESOLUTION NO. 733
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON,
AMENDING THE PROVISIONS OF RESOLUTION NO. 720,
ATTACHMENT A AS THEY RELATE TO THE ADOPTED
POSITION CLASSIFICATION SCHEDULE.
WHEREAS, Resolution 614 provides for the amendment of the position
classification schedule created with the adoption of the current wage and
salary administration plan, and
WHEREAS, Resolution No. 614, Attachment A was updated on March
3, 1980 by Resolution No. 720, and
WHEREAS, changes in staff responsibilities for the Administrative
Assistant Position have resulted in revisions to the position description
and specifications necessitating a revision of the position classification
schedule.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON,
Resolution 720, Attachment A, Position Classification Schedule
is hereby amended by changing the Position of Administrative
Assistant from Grade 5 to Grade 2. (Revised Position Classifi-
cation Schedule attached as Exhibit A) Attached are the Position
Description and the Position Specification statements that
reflect the responsibilities and requirements of the job.

REPORTS TO: Mayor
POSITION DESCRIPTION
ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
SUPERVISES: Various Staff Personnel As Required
BASIC FUNCTION:
Responsible for staff management and coordination, policy determination,
research and data compilation, reporting and program management in the
absence of or as a direct representative of the Mayor. Major additional
responsibility includes the development, implementation and administration
of the City Personnel System and administration of collective bargaining
contracts.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Coordinates and manages inter departmental activities and programs
at the direction of the Mayor.
2. Engages in policy formulation and development in conjunction with
all city departments.
3. Chairs Mayor's staff meetings in the Mayor's absence; delivers
presentations to city council and deals extensively with council
committees in formulating policy.
4. Collects and prepares data for reports and conferences, reviews
reports and other materials from city's administrative departments
for preparation and presentation to Mayor.
5. Administers, develops and implements the city's personnel programs,
policies and procedures within the guidelines set by Mayor and City
Council; provides for employee placement through assistance and
supervision of selection process.
6. Advises and participates in labor contract negotiations and advises
Mayor and City Council of needs for wage and classification adjust-
ments and related matters.
7. Responsible for overseeing all insurance and claims matters per-
taining to the city. Works closely with consultants in determining
city's insurance needs and recommends final determination on claims
matters.
8. Coordinates the purchasing schedules and inventory control of all
capital items within the city.
9. Performs related work as designated by the Mayor or requested by the
City Council.
1. EDUCATION:
Education and training required for satisfactory performance of the
position's duties and responsibilities should include graduation from a
four year college in public or business administration or related field
and a graduate degree in personnel management or public administration
or five years experience in these fields.
2. EXPERIENCE:
Previous job experience required for satisfactory performance of
the position's duties and responsibilities should include three years
administrative or technical experience in a governmental agency.
3. PLANNING:
The position is responsible for planning required to coordinate the
inter departmental activities of the city to insure specific reports,
programs or other matters are accomplished in a timely fashion. Typical
planning responsibilities include: Development of purchasing schedule
for capital equipment, development of reporting schedules for council
action items and the planning of policy and approaches in personnel and
labor relations matters.
4. DECISIONS:
This position is responsible for decisions based on policy direction
from the Mayor and Council concerning the routine coordination of staff
activities or completion of specific projects.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
This position is responsible for the direct supervision of specific
tasks or projects as directed by the Mayor and the indirect supervision
through coordination of inter departmental staff activity and routine
staff operation.
This position requires a high degree of external contact as designated
by the Mayor and as a part of assigned duties. The person in this position
often acts as representative of the city before civic groups, public agencies
or in handling matters concerning the public.

This factor should not be considered as a primary factor in this
position.
