RESOLUTION NO. 856 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON,
REQUESTING THE COUNTY AUDITOR TO CALL A SPECIAL
ELECTION TO CONSIDER THE ISSUE OF WHETHER THE
CITY SHOULD ADOPT A NEW FORM OF GOVERNMENT.
WHEREAS, the Tukwila City Council on March 1983,
adopted a resolution proposing the abandonment by the City of
its current Mayor- Council form of government, and the adoption
of the Council- Manager form of government; and
WHEREAS, state law provides that upon the passage of
a resolution by the City Council of such a proposal, an election
shall be ordered and conducted on that question; and
WHEREAS, a special election is necessary for the purpose
of voting on the proposal to adopt a new form of government.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA,
WASHINGTON, DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
1. The City Council of the City of Tukwila, Washington,
requests the King County Auditor as ex- officio supervisor of
elections, to call a special election in the City of Tukwila to
vote on the question of whether the City should abandon its current
Mayor- Council form of government, and adopt the Council Manager
form of government.
2. The special election shall be held on May 17, 1983.

Set forth below is the language which should be used
as the ballot title, to be included on the ballot of the
Special Election scheduled for May 17, 1983, on the issue
of whether the City should change its form of government:
Shall the City of
government from a
a Council- Manager
Tukwila change its form of
Mayor- Council system and adopt
system?
The following language is to be included in the ballot
statement (RCW 35A.06.050):
(The law provides that adopting the Council Manager
form of government will not affect Tukwila's eligi-
bility to continue to be governed under the State's
Optional Municipal Code.)
The ballot language should be submitted to the King
County Department of Elections for its review.
