AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE HOLDING 07 TVNICIPAL ELECTIO14S
147THIN THE TOWN OF TUKWILA, PROVIDING FOR THE APPOINTMENT OF
PROPER OFFICERS OF SUCH ELECTIO14S AND THEIR COUTENSATION, AND
REPEALING ANY ORDINANCES OR RESOLUTIONS IN CONFLICT HEF0VITH.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOMT OF TUKVIILA:
Section One. A Municipal election for electing Town Officers shall be held within
the Town of Tukwila each year on the Tuesday next siaceeding the first Monday
in December.
Section Two. The Town Clerk shall post notices of such elections at least Ten (10)
days prior to the holding of sane.
Section Three. Each alternate year, being the even numbered years of the Calendar,
that is to say; 1918, 1920, 1922, etc., there shall be elected a Mayor, Two
(2) Councilmen and Treasurer.
Section Four. Each alternate year, being the odd numbered years of the Calendar,
that is to say; 1919, 1921, 3.923, etc., there shall be elected Three (3)
Councilmen and Treasurer.
Section Five. The Mayor and Councilmen shall hold office for the tern, of Two (2) years
and the Treasurer shall hold office for the term of One (1) year; Provided, how-
ever, that any Officer of the Town of Tukwila who shall be elected under the terms
of this Ordinance shall hold office until his successor shall have been elected
and qualified, and accepts and enters upon the duties of his offive,
Section Six. Each year at the last Council meeting of the Town Council preceding
the holding of such election, the Mayor shall appoint a Committee of Two (2) or
more members of the Town Council, which committee shall be known as an Election
Board, whose duties it shall be to arrange a place for holding such Election,
properly equipped and furnished for the purpose, and appoint the necessary and
proper Officers to tak* charge of said Election.
Section Seven. The Officers of such Elections shall be Three (3) in number, to -wit:
One (1) Inspector and Two (2) Judges, whose duties shall be to conduct said Election
in all respects in stric* accordance with the Laws of the State of Washington
governing elections and in accordance with this Ordinance. The Inspector shall
pass upon the qualifications of voters, maintain order and enforce the laws
governing the holding of elections and the Judges shall each write down in a book
prepared for the purpose the names of all persons voting at such Election. The
compensation for Officers of Election shall be the-sum of Five (5.00) Dollars
each for services at such Election.
Section Eight. The Polls shall be declared to be and shall be opened at the hour of
Eight o'clock in the morning of the day of Election and shall be closed at the
hour of Eight o'clock in the evening of the same day.
Section Nine. All persons of Legal Age under the Statutes of the State of Washington,
rho are citizens of the United States, who have been residents of the State of
Washington for One (1) year last past, residents of King County for Ninety (90)
days last past, and residents of Tukwila for at least Thirty (30) days last past,
shall be entitled to vote at such election; Provided, however, that no person
whose name shall not appear upon the Registration Books of the Town of Tukwila
as being legally registered, shall be entitled to vote at such Election.
Section Ten, Proper Ballots prepared in conformity with the Laws of the State of Wash
ington, and proper Election Books and stationery, shall be procured by the Town
Clerk in due time and placed at the disposal of the Election Officers.

Section Eleven.When said Election shall be closed the Inspector and Judges
shall proceed to count the ballots, in accordance with the Election Laws of
the State of Washington, and shall file the returns of said Election with
the Clerk of the Town of Tukwila; and at the regular Council meeting next
succeeding the holding of such Election, the Town Council shall canvas said
returns and declare elected the successful candidate or candidates in accord..
ante therewith. The Clerk shall then issue Certificates of Election to the
said successful candidate or candidates who shall present himself or them—
selves for qualification and enter upon their duties at the Town Council meeting
to be held on the second Tuesday of the following January.
Section Twelve. This Ordinance is prepared and passed to cover any circumstance
or thing peculiar to the Town of Tukwila or any condition or conditions
existing therein; but in any Election held in the said Town of Tukwila the
qualifications of voters, the right of Challenge, electioneering within
certain distances of the polls and all other general rules and regulations
governing the holding of Elections as appears in the Election Laws of the
State of W shall obtain; and nothing herein contained shall be
construed to conflict therewith,
Section Thirteen.All Ordinances or parts of Ordinances, and all Resolutions of
parts of Resolutions in conflict herewith shall be, and the same are, hereby
repealed and void.
Section Fourteen,This Ordinance shall become effective from and after five days
from the date of its publication,
Passed the Town Council this 14th day of August 1919, and signed
by me in authentication of its passage.
