RESOLUTION NO. 925
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON,
ENDORSING PARTICIPATION IN AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT OF
THE.SEATTLE/KING COUNTY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL.
WHEREAS, the Economic Development Council (EDC) of Puget Sound has
formally voted to terminate its operations by December 31, 1984, and
WHEREAS, a priority of the Tukwila Council is to work with business,
labor, education, and other governments and interested parties to promote
responsible economic development, and
WHEREAS, a new economic development organization has been created in
Kign County for the purpose of coordinating all public and private economic
development programs, encouraging a diversified local economy, promoting the
expansion and retention of existing businesses, and furthering new economic
development opportunities which are consistent with the land use policies and
environmental standards of affected governmental jurisdictions, and
WHEREAS, an EDC Working Group, composed of public and private sector
representatives, has developed a proposal to create a Seattle /King County EDC
for the purpose of promoting and coordinating economic development programs in
King County, and
WHEREAS, representatives from business, labor, education, government,
and other interested parties voted at a public meeting on May 23, 1984 to
incorporate the Seattle /King County EDC by August 1, 1984, and
WHEREAS, the Seattle /King County EDC is a public /private partnership
whose objectives in promoting and coordinating responsible economic develop-
ment are consistent with the economic development objectives of the City of
Tukwila.
WHEREAS, the EDC Working Group has proposed,a formula for funding the
Seattle /King County EDC which would: (1) annually assess King�County govern-
ment, King County cities, and the Port of Seattle fen cents (10¢) for each
person residing within their boundaries, up to a maximum of $40,000; and (2)
solicit private sector contributions equal to the funds collected from the
public sector assessments, and
WHEREAS, Tukwila's assessment under the proposed funding formula
would be $386.00 for 1985.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, DO RESOLVE
AS FOLLOWS:
A. The City of Tukwila supports the creation of the Seattle /King
County EDC and intends to contribute a minimum of $386.00 to the 1985 EDC
Budget, subject to the Seattle /King County EDC signing a performance contract
for services rendered.
B. The City of Tukwila's commitment to pay its assessment to the
Seattle /King County EDC is subject to the King County cities, the Port of
Seattle, and the private sector contributing their share of funds to the
Seattle /King County EDC as called for under the EDC Working Group's proposed
funding formula.
PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, at a
regular meeting thereof this1 day of 1984.
