HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes 0970 - Central Business District (CBD) South of I-405 and East of I-5 RESOLUTION NO 970 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, ESTABLISHING A COMMUNITY PLANNING PROCESS FOR THE CONTINUED DEVELOPMENT OF THE TUKWILA CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT (CBD) LOCATED SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 405 AND EAST OF INTERSTATE 5. WHEREAS, in 1977 the city of Tukwila adopted a Comprehensive Land Use Policy Plan that included goals and policies for the promotion of development in the commercial and industrial areas of the City, and WHEREAS, in 1982 the City of Tukwila adopted a new Zoning Code that was based on the Comprehensive Land Use Policy Plan and included regulations of specific development actions, and WHEREAS, in 1985 the City of Tukwila adopted a budget approving an expenditure of funds to study the urban form /design of 'the City, and WHEREAS, the City of Tukwila has approved a contract for professional services to study the urban development needs of the Central Business District, and WHEREAS, a community planning process is desired to solicit citizen input which will assist elected officials in making decisions about future development in the City. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, DO HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. A Community Advisory Task Force is hereby established which will be composed of nine members. The Task Force will be assisted in its assignment by the Mayor and three Council members by Tukwila City Staff, and by any technical consultants required to complete this effort. Section 2. The composition of the Task Force will be as follows: Four residents of the City of Tukwila to be appointed by the Mayor; Three representatives of owners of major properties located in the Central Business District to be appointed by the Mayor; Two representatives of the Chamber of Commerce to be appointed by the Mayor; The Mayor of Tukwila as an ex officio member and chair of the Task Force, and Three Tukwila City Council Members as ex officio members of the Task Force to be appointed by the Council President. Section 3. The Task Force is -to be known as the Tukwila 2000 Task Force and is charged with the following assignments: 1. Review constraints to continued development of the Tukwila Central Business District; 2. Reflect the spectrum of community interests and concerns with regard to development of the City of Tukwila, with particular emphasis on the Central Business District through the year, 2000; 3. Provide a forum for discussion of the urban development oppor- tunities and constraints facing the City, the direction for future development, and the appropriate role of the private and public sectors in that development; 4. Provide a vision of what the City can and should be in the year, 2000; 5. Review and comment on urban development consultant findings, conclusions, and recommendations, and; 6. Formulate a recommendation on the future development of the City to the Mayor and City Council.
