RESOLUTION NO. 998
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA,
WASHINGTON, DECLARING THE CITY'S INTENT TO NEGOTIATE
WITH LABOR UNIONS REPRESENTING CITY EMPLOYEES TO ADD DR.
MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.'S BIRTHDAY AS A LEGAL HOLIDAY IN
LIEU OF ONE PERSONAL HOLIDAY.
WHEREAS, the State of Washington has recently declared the
third Monday in January to be a legal holiday for the State and
all of its political subdivisions in honor of the birthday of Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr., and
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that all City
employees should be given this holiday in order to honor Dr. King,
and
WHEREAS, the City's current labor agreements do not provide
for Dr. King's birthday to be a legal holiday, now, therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, HEREBY
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The City Council hereby declares its intent to
negotiate with the various labor unions representing City
employees for the addition of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s
birthday as a legal holiday for City employees in lieu of one of
the two personal holidays granted to City employees by current
labor agreements.
