HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes 1175 - Teen CouncilCITY OF TUKWILA WASHINGTON RESOLUTION NO. 1175 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, CREATING A TEEN COUNCIL, SETTING ITS MEMBERSHIP AND DUTIES. WHEREAS, the City of Tukwila recognizes that young adults may have special needs that have not been addressed, and WHEREAS, the City thinks it important that high school junior and senior students who have expressed an interest in City issues be given an opportunity to actively participate in City governance; and WHEREAS, students have specifically requested that they be allowed input on recreational program offerings, NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, DO HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS. Section 1. Creation. A Student Government board of no more than nine and no fewer than seven students from high school grade levels is hereby created. Section 2. Membership Membership shall consist of at least two sophomores, two humors and two seniors, with the remaining positions chosen by the Mayor Selection shall be made by the Mayor from applications and interviews of the students. Memberships on the Board shall represent the student population. Section 3. Terms of Office. Terms shall be for two years, although the first senior year members shall serve only one year Sophomores and juniors who choose to serve will be expected to continue serving for two years. Section 4. Duties. The Student Government Board will meet to discuss issues of importance to both the teen group and the City They will make recommendations to the Mayor on programs and City issues to serve their age group such as recreation program offerings, volunteer projects, student government days, and joint City -teen programs Section 5. Staffing. The Parks and Recreation Department will serve as the committee's staff and as liaison between the Board and City administration.
