HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes 0017 - Sidewalk Construction on Pacific HighwayRESOLUTIOI3 No, 17 A RESOLUTION Concerning the building of a sidewalk on the West side of .:'aeific Highway, along .a portion of Block 15, in the Town of Tukwila. WHEREAS, Public oafety and convenience demand and require that a sidewalk be constructed on the West Bide of Pacific Highway, 'begineing at the South boundary of Lot 10, Block 15, and continuing along said Pacifte Highway to the North boundary of Lot 23, ?i7oek 15, upon a strip of land six (6) feet wide, zneaeuring from the property abutting upon said proposed nic1 walk, said strip of lend having been acquired from the County of King, for sidewalk purposes, by Permit No. 510 executed by the Cor eiss toners of said King County; and,. `,!IIEREAS, It ie deemed by the Town Co..ncil of Tukwila to be for the best. Interests of all coner►rr►ed, concurred in and aseented to by a majority of the abutting property owners a1oeg said improvement, that the above described six (6) foot strip of land, upon which it is contemplated by the Town Council to conrtrect a sidewalk as hereinabove set forth, be filled in and brought to an even gr ^.do with the Pacific Highwey, erecting the neces3ary retaining walls to prevent washing and consequent damage to propoi ed sidewalk after construction; and, WHEREAS After consideration of the respective costs of construction of said sidewalk with wood or concrete, and taking into account the practical indesti'u ti'o:tlity of concrete and the comparatively short duration of the life of s sidewalk conrtx'uated of wood, it is also deemed to be for the best interests of all concerned, in which a majority of the property owners concur, that the above proposed sidewalk be constructed of concrete of the customary thickness and ingredients to obtain first •cuss and satisfactory results, NOVJ THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, By the Town Coureztl of the Town of Tukwila, theft, the said six -fort otrip hereinabove described, the control of which six -foot strip having been acquired by the Town of Tukwila under Permit No. 511,0 Z from tho Corvniseioners of King County, Washington, be filled to an even grade with Pacific Highway, construct:t.1g the necessary retaining wall to prevent washing; end that after said fill shall have been made and shall have settled to fore a firm foundation, a six -foot concrete sidewalk shall be constructed thereon, said sidewalk to eetend from t' South boundary of Lot 10, Block 15, to the North boundary of Lot 23, said Block 15, and all work in connection therewith, including filling, as above, and the cora.strection of neces3ary retaining wall, to be done at the expense of the abutting property thereon. Said sidewalk to be. constructed in accordance with the best practice for such work and the concrete to lonposed of ingredietts mixed according to the formula recognized by experts in this class of work as scientifically correct. Walk to be laid to a true line of grade to be given by "the Superintendent of Streets. All work to be first-claso in every respect and to the satisfaction of the Street Superintendent. AND, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Notice in the manner prescribed by law, be given to the several owners of the property above described, ordering the construction of'said sidewalk and the filling and construction of retaining wall as above sat forth, and providing in such notice that unless said walk shall have been constructed on or before September 19, 1920, the Town of Tukwila will, on that date, proceed to construct said sidewalk and cause the expense of of such construction to be assessed against the owners of the several lots in front of which said walk is to be constructed.
