HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes 0020 - Sidewalk Construction on Pacific HighwayRESOLUTION: No 20 A RESOLUTION concerning the building of the sidewalk on the Meet side of Pacific Highway, along a portion of Block' 8, in the Town of Tukwila. WHEREAS, Public safety and convenience demand and require that a sidewalk be constructed on the West side of the Pacific Highway beginning at the intersection of Main Street and the Pacific Highway, and continuiag along said Pacific Highway North for a distance of Four ((400)' Hundred feet upon a strip of land Six (6) fent wide, measuring from the property abutting upon said proposed eidewnik, said strip of land having been acquired from the County of King, for sidewalk purposes, by Permit No. 57020 executed by the Co:sunieeioners of e:said King County; and, WHEREAS, it ie deemed by the Town Council of Tukwila to be for the best intereste of all concerned, concurred in and assented to by a majority of the abutting property ownere along said improvement, that the above described six (6) :foot strip of land, upon which it is contemplated by the Town Council to construct sidewalk as he.reinabove set forth, be filled in and brought to an even grade with the Pacific Highway, erecting the neaess:ary retaining walls to prevent washing and consequent damage to proposed sidewalk after construction; and, WHEREAS, REAS, After consideration of the mspective costa of construotion o' said ;sidewalk with wood or concrete, and taking into account the practical indestrueti- biiity of concrete and the comparatively short duration of the life of a sidewalk constructed of wood, it is also deemed to be for the best interests of all concerned, in which a majority of the property owners concur, that the above proposed sidewalk be constructed of concrete of the customary thickness and ingredients to obtain first .dose and satisfactory results. NOW THFMFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, By the Town Council of the Town of Tukwila that the seid six -foot strip herainabove described., the control of which six-foot strip having been acquired by the Town of Tukwila under Permit No. 57020, from the Commissioners of King County, Washington, be filled to an even grade with the Pacific Highway, constructing the nece;;ary retaining well to prevent washing; and that after said fill shall have been made and shall have settled to form a firm foundation, a six -foot concrete sidewalk shall be constructed thereon, said sidewalk to extend from the intersection of Main Street and said Pacific Highway to a point 400 (four hundred) feet north of said intersection, and all work in connection therewith, including filling, se above, and the construction of neceswiry retaining wall to be done at the expense of the abutting property thereon. Said sidewalk to be oonstructed in accordance with the best practice for such work and the concrete to be Composed of ingredients mixed according to the formula .recognized by experts in this class of work as ecientifioally correct. 3ialk to be laid to a true line of grade to be given by the Superintendent of Streets. All work to be fir. :t class in every respect and to the satisfaction of the Street Superintendent. Dollar, n Tukwila, u Ravonscale, n Tukwila n n n ND, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Notice in the manner prescribed by law, be given to the several owners of the property above described, ordering the construction of said sidewalk and the filling and construction of retaining wall as above set :Forth, and providing in such notice that unless said walk shall have. been constructed on or before March 15th, 1921, the Town of Tukwila will, on that date, proceed to construct said sidewalk and cause the expense of such construction to be assessed against the owners of the several lots fn front of which sAd walk is to be constructed..
