RESOLUTION NO 67
WII)ilRUUAS, there will be submitted to the vote of the people, at
the next General Election, November 2,1942, a proposed Amendment
No.13, to the Constitution of this State, which if adopted will
provide Constitutional authority for the organization of more than
300,000; and
WIiREAS, said proposed Amendment No.13 presently applies to King
County only, it being the only County in theSsate with a population
of 300,000;. and
'ydHEREAS, it is the declared purpose of those proposing and pro-
moting the adoption of said Amendment No.13 to eventually bring
about the organization of a City and County of Seattle, proposing
an area to be known as the Metropolitan District, bounded on the
North by Snohomish County, on the West by Puget Sound, on the South
by a line from Puget Sound two miles south of R to the East
boundary line, and on the East by a line from the South boundary to
the Snohomish County line far enough East to embrace Kirkland,
Bellevue and all corsununities on the East Shore of Lake Washington;
and
WHEREAS, it appears, from financial studies made, that the organ-
ization of such a City and County of Seattle would, beyond any
reasonable doubt, seriously injure and cripple the remaining; por-
tion of King County, financially and otherwise; and.
Wn.JR ,AS, the adoption of said proposed Amendment No.13 will make
possible the inclusion in said County and City of Seattle, at the
pleasure of the present City of Seattle, and against the will of
the people in this or any similar district, such additional terri-
tory in said idetropolitan area as it may believe to be to its ad-
vantage; and
HERI AS, the adoption of the proposed constitutional Amendment
Ro.13 creates a power that will permit the large population of
Seattle to over -ride the wishes and the will of the people in said
ietropolitan area outside of the present City of Seattle and will
deny to suburban communities in said ISietropolitan area the right
of self determination and home rule; and
WIThR AS, said proposed Amendment E0.13 has to do only with the
City of Seattle and :Ling County and does not at the present time
concern any other part of the State of Washington; and
WHf,REAS, the residents of the Town. of Tu1_wila represented by
their Town Council desire to go on record opposing the proposed
Charter Amendment No.13; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, by the Town Council of the Town of Tukwila, Washington,
that .the people and the Town Council of the Town of Tukwila are
opposed to the adoption of the proposed Amendment to the Constitution
of the State of Washington, as presented by joint Resolution No.13
of the 1927 Legislature of the State.
Adopted by the Town Council of the Town of Tukwila this 7th. day
of Septeimber,1943.
