The following commissioners attended the regularly scheduled meeting of the Tukwila Civil
Service Commission. Dennis Sivak, Ron Johnston and Carol Zuvela. Others in attendance
were Police Commander Dennis McOmber and Kim Gilman, Civil Service Examiner.
CALL TO ORDER
5:10 p.m. Chair Sivak called the meeting to order.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
MOVED BY ZUVELA, SECONDED BY JOHNSTON
THAT THE MINUTES OF THE TUKWILA CIVIL
SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING HELD ON
JUNE 4, 2012, BE APPROVED. MOTION CARRIED.
Chair Sivak inquired if a letter had been sent to Mr. Harun
regarding the Commission's decision on his appeal hearing
last month. The Examiner confirmed that a letter had been
sent.
GENERAL BUSINESS
No items were included on the agenda for general business.
POLICE DEPARTMENT BUSINESS
Staffing Update Commander McOmber reported that there are 2 officers out
on sick leave, 1 officer on administrative leave, and 1
officer out on long -term military leave. He noted that
there is one candidate in the background process for entry
level Police Officer, and that 3 entry -level candidates
started work for the City on July l st There is 1 lateral that
is scheduled to start work in August. There are 3 open
pipeline positions left to fill.
Entry -Level Police Officer An eligibility list for entry -level Police Officers was
submitted for Commissioners' approval. The eligibility list
resulted from recent Oral Boards (June 20 -21, 2012) where
11 names were added to the existing entry -level list, for a
total of 16 names.

Lateral -Entry Police Officer An eligibility list for lateral -entry police officer was
submitted for Commissioners' approval. The list contained
one name. Further testing for lateral -entry candidates will
occur at the end of the month.
Police Sergeant Promotional List An eligibility list for promotion to the position of Police
Sergeant was submitted for Commissioners' approval. This
list contained 4 names.
OTHER BUSINESS Vice chair Johnston reported that the recent Civil Service
training, hosted by the City of Fife, contained good
information and further reinforced some decisions made by
the Commission over the last year.
The Examiner announced that the dates for the Civil
Service Conference have been set for September 18 -19`
This year's conference will be held at the Wenatchee
Convention Center. Commissioners inquired as to what
funds would be available for travel expenses if
Commissioners were interested in attending. The Examiner
responded that she would review the budget and provide an
answer at the August meeting.
