WHEREAS, during the past fifteen years, Mr. Charles 0. Baker has served
the Town of Tukwila as Mayor and has fulfilled the duties of his office in a
most capable and efficient manner, giving his time and effort for the improve—
ment of the town with no thought of remuneration for himself; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Baker has served as Mayor of Tukwila for a longer period of
time than has any other Mayor in the history of the town; and
WHEREAS, through his very able leadership the town of Tukwila has advanced
to a City of the Third Class;and
WHEREAS, during these years Mayor Baker has proven himself a tireless and
courageous leader receiving harmonious cooperation from the Town Council, the
citizens of Tukwila and from officials in Government and Business:
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Tukwila:
That we the members of the Tukwila City Council express our sincere
appreciation to Mr. Baker for his faithful and devoted service as Mayor of Tukwila,
noting his able leadership, his sound judgement and his integrity. As a man of vision
he is dedicated to the improvement and progress of Tukwila. He encouraged the adoption
of a Comprehensive Plan for the town and a Zoning Ordinance to carry out such a Plan.
During his administration the town has more than quadrupled in area and population;
the total assessed property value in Tukwila has increased from $162,0f-'7 in 1947 to
$1,572,162 in 1961. He has indeed seen our town march steadily forward. Mayor Baker
has been a true friend to the people of Tukwila and has shown real interest in the
problems confronting each citizen. We appreciate the many rare and splendid qualities
of Mayor Baker and we sincerely believe that there has never been a Mayor an where,
who has accomplished as much for a town or city as has Mayor Baker for Tukwila.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy, of this Resolution, signed by the
Mayor and all members of the Council, be presented to Mayor Baker as a memento
of the high esteem in which they hold him and also of the action taken by the
Tukwila City Council.
