HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes 0229 - Burning Regulationand ATTEST: CITY OF UKWI_Q City Clerk WASHINGTON RESOLUTION NO 229 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Tukwila is in general agreement with the objectives of the Puget Sound Air Pollution Control Agency and desirous of assisting in their accomplishment, and WHEREAS, the Council deems that Regulation No. 1 places unreasonable limitations on suburban backyard burning, WHEREAS, the undue limitations have caused unauthorized burning and subsequent disrespect for the law; an increase in roadside dumping of refuse; numerous complaints of inconvenience in obtaining permits; increased and excessive costs for waste pickup and dumping, and, WHEREAS, the statistics compiled by the Air Pollution District indicate that backyard burning contributes a negligible amount of air pollution. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Tukwila, Washington as follows: Section 1. The Board of Directors of the Puget Sound Air Pollution Control Agency revise Regulation No. 1 to permit burning of materials (other than garbage, :rubber, tar paper and similar materials) during periods established on the basis of weather conditions and proper maintenance of fire and safety considerations. Section 2. Such a regulation would be acceptable to residents, eliminate illegal burning during restricted periods, prevent further air pollution during adverse burning conditions and eliminate possibility of smoldering decomposition which further pollutes the air.
