The following commissioners attended the regularly scheduled meeting of the Tukwila Civil
Service Commission: Dennis Sivak, Ron Johnston and Carol ZuveIa. Others in attendance
were Police Chief Mike Villa, Assistant Fire Chief Chris Flores and Kim Gilman, Civil Service
Examiner.
CALL TO ORDER
5:02 p.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Chair Sivak called the meeting to order.

THAT THE MINUTES OF THE TUKWILA CIVIL
SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING HELD ON
JULY 16, 2012, BE APPROVED. MOTION
CARRIED.
GENERAL BUSINESS
Kim reported that the City would reimburse
Commissioners hotel, mileage, and registration expenses
for attending the upcoming annual Civil Service
Conference. She will distribute further information to
Commissioners as soon as it becomes available.
Commissioners discussed rescheduling the upcoming
September 4 th meeting due to the Labor Day holiday. It
was agreed that the meeting would be postponed to
September 10 5:00pm and will be held in the Police
Administration's Conference Room.
FIRE DEPARTMENT BUSINESS
Staffing Update Assistant Chief Flores reported that there is currently 1
staff member working Iight duty, and another that is out on
long -term medical leave. He noted that a 23 year veteran
firefighter retired recently, and that a candidate is in the
background process currently with an anticipated hire date
of September 1 5t

POLICE DEPARTMENT BUSINESS

Staffing Update Chief Villa reported that 4 officers are out on leave, and 5
candidates are currently in training. An additional 4
candidates are in the background process, and the City
expects to have 6 entry -level candidates in the enrolled in
the Police Academy this September. He also noted that the
Department expects to have 3 retirements before the end of
the year.
Lateral -Entry Police Officer An eligibility list for lateral -entry police officer was
submitted for Commissioners' approval. The list contained
2 names.
OTHER BUSINESS Vice chair Johnston reported that he received some positive
feedback from staff at the SCORE Jail Facility regarding
their work with the Tukwila Police Department.
