COMMUNITY AFFAIRS AND PARKS COMMITTEE -
Meeting Minutes
January 14, 2013 5:00 p.m.
PRESENT
Councilmembers: Allan Ekberg, Chair; and Kate Kruller

CALL TO ORDER:
Committee Chair Ekberg called the meeting to order at 5:15 p.m.

II. BUSINESS AGENDA
A.
Grant Acceptance: Duwamish Hill Preserve
Staff is seeking Council approval to accept a grant from King Conservation District (KCD) in the amount of
$50,000 for further development of the Duwamish Hill Preserve.
This grant was originally awarded for the acquisition of a parcel of land just west of the Preserve; however,
funding for KCD programs was delayed, and not awarded in time to be used for the land acquisition. In
response, City staff requested that KCD allow the grant funding be utilized for further development of the
Preserve. King Conservation District agreed to allow the use of funding for development. There are no City
matching funds required of this grant.
Committee Member Quinn suggested a thank you letter be sent to King County Councilmember Patterson
UNANIMOUS
for supporting the distribution of King Conservation Funds throughout King County.

B.
2013-2014 Human Services Contracts
Staff is seeking Council approval of seven (7) two-year human services contracts for a variety of social
services as outlined below. Funding for these types contracts was approved by the City Council through the
2013-2014 Biennial Budget as part of the Human Services budget.
Contracts for human services programs last for a duration of two years and are subject to regular review as
identified in each specific contract set forth between that respective agency and the City. The seven (7)
contracts listed below are coming forward to Council for approval since each contract will total more than
$40,000 over the two-year duration and some of these contracts may be considered interlocal agreements,

both of which require Council approval.

III.MISCELLANEOUS
Committee Members had a brief discussion regarding a work plan and/or goals for the Community Affairs
and Parks Committee. Members concurred that it was a good idea. Committee Chair Ekberg commented that
he is meeting, which includes a discussion of work plans and/or goals
for Council, Committees and the Council President.
