At 11:50 on 5/8/13, an officer on routine patrol near Southcenter ran the license plate of
a vehicle he saw driving in the opposite direction. In the few seconds he waited for the
computer to tell him the car was reported stolen, the car turned into the mall and he lost
sight ofit. He radioed a description of the car and driver to other officers that converged
on the mall. About a minute later, another officer found the car parked in the Cascade

Another officer saw a person that matched the description of the driver of the stolen car
in another vehicle in the driveway west of Nordstrom. The officer, who was on foot,
ordered the driver of the car to stop. Thedriverstruckthe officer withthe car;the officer
fired at the car. The driver sped away striking several parked cars as he fled. Other
officers caught up to the fleeing driver and chased it as he fled out of the south entrance
of the mall and directly into the loading dock area of Target, a dead end. The two men
in the car, one of which had been hit by gunfire, were taken into custody.
