HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOW 2013-02-25 Item 2B - Powerpoint Presentation Shown at Meeting - King County Airport Noise MitigationKing County KCIA's Sound Insulation Program Status Report to City of Tukwila February 25, 2013 Background of KCIA's Sound Insulation Program • A Part 150 Study (Federal Aviation Regulation -FAR Part 150) was initiated at the request of the King County Council and began in 1999; FAA approved KCIA's Part 150 Study in 2005. • KCIA's Noise Exposure Map established the eligibility of residences in noise contours 65 decibels (dB) and greater, that includes portions of Beacon Hill, Georgetown, and Allentown in Tukwila. • A video of how residences are noise tested and the Noise Mitigation Boundary map are located at http: / /www.kingcounty.gov /transportation /kcdot /Airp ort/ NoiseManagementSoundinsulation .aspx. 2/25/2013 Status of Sound Insulation Program Since 2008: • 313 homes (136 BH; 152 GT; 25 TUK) received acoustical doors, windows and ventilation. • 173 homes (76 BH; 60 GT; 37 TUK) have been bid and are ready for construction in 2012 -2013. • 41 homes (18 BH; 13 GT; 11 TUK) are in design. • 14 "historic" homes (2 BH; 1 TUK; 11 GT) are completed; 4 (3 GT; 1 TUK) are in design. • "After" construction noise tests reveal up to 20 decibel reduction in homes participating in the program. • FAA contributed $36,160,000 grant funds, matched by KCIA's $1,809,000 non - general tax revenue. • Sound Insulation Program will be completed in 2014. 2/25/2013 Who is Eligible? • Residences located in noise contours 65 dB and above. • Residences located in noise contours 65 -69 dB require noise testing to determine whether interior noise level is greater than 45 dB. • KCIA does not limit eligibility to owner - occupied properties — rentals are also eligible. • KCIA's website contains a video and translated scripts about the participation process. • What other venues for this message to potential participants are available before the 2013 deadline? 2/25/2013 Questions? • www.kingcounty.gov /airport • Noise Management /Sound Insulation • Sharyn.parker @kingcounty.gov 2/25/2013
