HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes 0563 - Interlocal Agreement - King County Public Defender ServicesATTEST: WASHINGTON RESOLUTION NO 563 RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXTEND THE DEFENSE SERVICE AGREEMENT WITH KING COUNTY, WASHINGTON. WHEREAS, the City of Tukwila maintains and operates a Municipal Court; and WHEREAS, certain defendants appearing in said Court are indigent and cannot afford legal representation; and WHEREAS, said indigent defendants may be entitled to have legal counsel appointed by the Court to represent them at no expense to the defendants, NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Tukwila, Washington, does resolve as follows: The Mayor is authorized to extend the Defense Service Agreement with King County, Washington, signed March 2, 1976, under Resolution No. 516. The term of this extension shall be from January 1, 1977, through December 31, 1977. If you wish to continue providing indigent defense ser- vice in criminal matters through our 6ffice, please have the appropriate city official sign the enclosed agreement and return to this office. I will present the agreement to Mr. Spellman for signature and return a signed copy to you. In the event you are unable to obtain signature prior to January 1, 1977, and wish to continue with the contract, please give this office a call so arrangements can be made to provide attorneys for defendants without a lapse in service. Please note that the contractual cost for defense service to your city will be the same in 1977 as in the current year. If you have any questions, please call. Sincerely, P. The County Office of Public Defense will interview defend- ants charged with violating criminal Ordinances of the City who have requ' sled counsel, obtain and pay for legal -ounsel for those quali- fied indigents. 2, The City agrees to reimburse the Ccunty the sum of One Hun- dred Five and no /100th Dollars ($105.00) per case for each indigent charged with violating a City Ordinance and assignee'. an attorney by the r't'.fice of Public Defense, said sum to include interviewing and indic:enoy determination by the Office of Public Defense. 3.
